Happy Black Babywearing Week!

While many of the brands and styles of baby carriers we are familiar with today are relatively new, babywearing has been around for much longer. Black Babywearing Week seeks to amplify Black voices and educate about the history (and future) of Black babywearing.

Happy June!

Black Babywearing Week is officially upon us! This year, the official theme is “Our Black Joy”.

We will be showcasing the beautiful smiles and joyful faces of Black folk babywearing EVERYWHERE! We cannot wait to celebrate!

Drop a happy smiling selfie below (babywearing, or not) to show us how excited you are for !

We are devastated to share that Felicity, 21 month old daughter of our previous CLBW president Nikki Patrick, passed away early this morning. Nikki has touched many lives in our community and CLBW wouldn’t be where we are without her. Felicity was a warrior and we have all learned about strength and love from Nikki and Felicity.

For those that are wondering how to help the family, this is their link to help with final expenses and needs of the family.

Please keep the Patrick family in your thoughts.

If you're celebrating Thanksgiving (US folks) what's on your menu this year? We've seen a few safety incidents involving babywearing and cooking. Please get the word out to caregivers- babies around the stove can have tragic consequences.

As promised, here is an update regarding meetings.

As you all know, we have been on hold since the pandemic hit in March. We have constantly re-evaluated and pushed dates back. We hoped by this point we would be in a much better place and able to resume some type of in person interaction.

With that said, we all know that hasn’t been the case. With the pandemic still very active, schools moving to virtual instruction, and guidance suggesting that close in person interaction is not ideal at this time, we had to make a tough call.

Until further notice we will continue to operate completely virtually. We do frequently chat and brainstorm ideas and as soon as it’s safe we will resume in person gatherings and instruction.

We are going to be updating our procedure for requesting carriers. We are also going to begin sign ups for 1:1 zoom assistance.

These decisions have not been easy. I personally truly miss babywearing and seeing people at meetings. But safety comes above all and because of the nature of our meetings and the closeness required, this is the only safe step.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. And be on the lookout for an announcement regarding carrier check outs and 1:1 zoom help!
