Second City Sisters We are your Second City Sisters, Abbey of the Irreverent Bean! We are a mission house of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence based in Chicago, IL!

The Second City Sisters is a q***r organization of secular nuns that vows to promulgate universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt throughout the North, South, and West sides of Chicago and surrounding communities. Using our hallmark irreverent wit and parody, we combat shame and exclusion for all people, with a particular focus on the LGBTQ+ community. We are guided in our work by our central values of activism for justice, service, community, and self-expression.

This month, we’ve been asking what su***de prevention looks like. The answer is: It’s all of us.

Su***de prevention looks like checking in. It looks like listening. It looks like staying through hard conversations. It looks like making room for joy.

Su***de prevention looks like building communities where people are known, loved, supported, and free to imagine a future for themselves.

Su***de prevention is not passive. It is not exclusive to crisis lifelines and emergency rooms. We can’t forget that it also looks like creating schools, families, friendships, and communities where LGBTQ+ young people feel valued and welcome. 🧡

Su***de prevention is about the world we build in every moment before a crisis.

It’s our collective responsibility to build a world where people feel connected and seen. A world where everyone can imagine tomorrow.

THANK YOU, CHICAGO! 🫶

On Sunday, you helped us Fill the Clown Car — and you absolutely delivered.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, said hello, shared some joy, and donated non-perishable food, household supplies, and everyday essentials for our neighbors in Gary, Indiana with Joy Bomb Social Center

Every bag, box, can, bottle, and bundle represents someone choosing to show up for their community. And that is exactly what the Sisters are all about.

We are so grateful to everyone who donated, helped spread the word, volunteered their time, and supported this effort. You helped turn a little clown car into a whole lot of community care.

Today, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are hosting FILL THE CLOWN CAR, a community supply drive supporting our neighbors in Gary, Indiana, as they recover from recent catastrophic storms.

We’re partnering with Bomb Social Center to help get essential supplies directly into the hands of people who need them.

The Sisters recently spent some time volunteering at The Brown Elephant, and let’s just say… serving the community looks pretty fabulous on us.

We sorted. We organized. We laughed. We worked. And we got to spend time supporting an organization that makes a difference in our community.

Because Joy First means joy for everyone.

And sometimes the best way to spread joy is simply to show up and lend a hand.
