After coming to Chicago and learning that there is very little to no programs for children in the south-side of Chicago, my partner and I decided to take action and create spaces for children who have been systematically disenfranchised by the city. Although this article was written 2 yrs ago, children poverty has become increasingly evident here in the city as it has almost tripled in the last years. We are conscious about the history of segregation in Chicago as well as the constant divestment in communities of color nation-wide. This why we need organizations like La Semillita Art Project in order to engage communities, heal our children, and give them hope and inspiration to want to live, thrive and transform the world into a reality of love, empathy and compassion through art.
