Recently, ICDI received a handwritten letter from a client that expressed the impact of our work on the local community. Every food distribution is about more than providing groceries—it's about reminding families that they are not alone.

Messages like this remind us why our mission matters. Behind every meal is a family navigating difficult circumstances, and behind every act of generosity is a community choosing to care. To everyone who donates, volunteers, and supports our work: thank you. Your compassion provides more than food—it offers hope, dignity, and the reassurance that no one has to face hardship alone.

English translation below:

"Thank you to all the kind-hearted people who fight for families like ours so that we can have food in our home. I am very grateful for everything. May God bless each person who makes this possible. You cannot imagine how important this is for us right now. Everything is very hard at this moment, and this is very valuable to us.

Thank you all very much for your time and your kind hearts. I hope you continue doing things like this that are so useful for our household. It is a great help for me and for other families like mine.

I pray for every person who makes this possible. I do not know all of you, but God knows who you are, and He will give you much more. All families are going through very sad things, trying to survive, but God never leaves us, and He sends you to help us during these times.

The things you give us are a great help because we truly use all of them. They are essential for us. A thousand thanks to every person who does not forget about us. We appreciate all of you very much.

This is a little of what I feel in my heart. I felt happy when they told me about today. I appreciate you very much. I hope you can understand my handwriting; it is not very good. I cannot write very well because I only went to school for eight months, but my heart is grateful.

Thank you very much."

Today is National Non-Profit Day! Today, we recognize nonprofit organizations and their efforts to serve their local communities. 🌟

ICDI is a non-profit organization that serves the local Chicago immigrant community. Our organization is one of many Chicago nonprofits that help and guide asylum seekers and the immigrant community into their new homes. We are proud to be a part of the strong nonprofit community.

Our nonprofit work would not be possible without our wonderful staff, volunteers, and donors. We look forward to working together to continue making a difference for everyone in our community.

Recently, we were honored to receive a beautiful wooden horse donation from a generous donor whose connection to this treasured piece makes the gift especially meaningful. The wooden horse was handcrafted specifically for her as a little girl, making it a cherished part of her childhood and filled with special memories over the years.

What makes this story even more touching is that the wooden horse has now found a new home with a small child who immediately connected with it. Watching this timeless toy bring comfort and happiness once again is a beautiful reminder of how meaningful donations can carry love, history, and kindness from one family to another.

We are deeply grateful to our donor and her family for entrusting us with something so personal and heartfelt. Gifts like these remind us that every donation has a story, and every act of generosity helps create moments of joy and connection for the children and families we serve.

Last month, the ICDI case management team hosted a Mother's Day and Food pantry event to support clients with the recent changes in SNAP benefits. We were able to provide food assistance to 50 families. The team introduced the importance of self-care to the mothers through mental health activities. In addition, Gabriela, our Public Benefits Specialist, was on-site to assist clients with applying to IDHS benefits and any other related questions.

Your support helps events like this come to life. Please consider donating to our upcoming event by purchasing items on our Amazon Wishlist: https://ow.ly/P68L50ZeVfs
