Serve Boldly is about service. But it’s about more than service.

Youth spend time serving alongside local organizations and neighbors. But they also worship, reflect, build relationships, explore their community, and pay attention to where God is already at work.

That’s true whether a group comes for a full week or a half-week. Because the goal isn’t simply to check a service project off the list. It’s to help young people see their neighbors, their communities, and themselves a little differently.

That can happen in just a few days.

For some middle school youth, a summer service trip can mean a LOT of new things at once.

Being away from home. Sleeping somewhere new. Navigating a busy schedule. Serving alongside people they’ve never met. Making their own sandwich every day. 🥪 😄

A half-week gives young people a chance to practice independence and build confidence without asking them to jump straight into a full week away.

It can be a first step into service, travel, and community life — and a starting point for longer experiences down the road.

Start small. Grow from there.

Shorter doesn’t have to mean less meaningful.

A full week away can be a big commitment for youth, families, and congregations. But that doesn’t mean young people should miss out on the experience of serving, traveling, building community, and seeing where God is at work.

A half-week with Serve Boldly offers a full experience in a more manageable timeframe.

Youth meet neighbors. Serve alongside local organizations. Worship together. Try new things. And discover a community through new eyes.

Sometimes, a few days is all it takes to begin something that lasts much longer.

What if Serve Boldly became more than a core memory?

That’s what one leader hoped for this summer:
“I hope it’s more than just a core memory, and we all strive to serve more boldly in our home communities for the future.”

We heard that same hope throughout this year’s evaluations.

Participants returned home wanting to keep serving. To look for needs in their own communities. To keep stepping outside their comfort zones. To keep loving their neighbors.

That’s the kind of impact we hope lasts long after your vehicle pulls away. 🚌

Sometimes, transformation starts with simply saying yes.

Yes to a new neighborhood.
Yes to a new experience.
Yes to a hard conversation.
Yes to serving someone you’ve never met.

For many Serve Boldly participants, this summer was their first opportunity to serve outside their local community. They encountered new stories and challenges, they learned from ministry partners who showed them how God is already at work.

One leader noticed the difference:
“They grew as individuals and closer as a group, and their confidence and willingness to step forward to help others and try new things were fantastic.”

That’s what happens when we step outside our comfort zones.

We discover that God was already there.

Sometimes the biggest change is realizing just how many ways there are to make a difference.

This Serve Boldly participant came home seeing opportunities to serve all around them, and realizing they don’t have to wait for the “perfect” opportunity to show up for someone else.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) in Seattle this summer! Serve Boldly changes lives. 🖤

As we read through this summer’s evaluations, one message keeps rising to the surface: God is changing lives...not only in the communities we serve, but in the hearts of those who come.

Participants told us they grew closer as groups, worshiped more deeply, stepped outside their comfort zones, and gained confidence to serve others.

One leader put it simply:
“They gained a passion for service.”

And that’s exactly what we’re praying for. That Serve Boldly doesn’t end when the trip ends but sends people home ready to serve boldly wherever God calls them.
..because the story doesn’t end when you go home. 🚌
