This Sunday, IMAN and Pillars Fund will be hosting a screening of Bassam Tariq’s action-thriller, starring the great, Mahershala Ali.

There are signs in everything—and this old storefront sign, reading “There’s A Lot to Save,” says it all. At 63rd & Racine, an abandoned lot once stood between an abandoned train station and a vacant school.

Today, that same lot is a thriving hub for food access, creative programming, and community gatherings—located next to IMAN’s Fresh Market and in front of the soon-to-be reopened Racine Station. Both outcomes of years of organizing with our partners at to radically reimagine our community.

This is the power of renewal.

We’re blessed to have launched Color Lab this week— a weekly afterschool drop-in space where young people can pull up, hang out, and let their imagination run free!

Want to create alongside our artist leads Izze and Star? Want to try a new medium of art? Or simply sit in the back with some supplies and make whatever’s in your head? This is your place.

The Color Lab is open for youth ages 13-18 (younger allowed, but require parental supervision), every Wednesday from 4PM-7PM, completely free.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the transition of Orrin Williams—beloved community leader, former Fresh Market Committee lead, and an enduring teacher and guide in IMAN’s food access work.

For years, Baba Orrin shared his wisdom with our community—joining panels, leading workshops at our farmers markets, and helping shape a vision for a thriving food ecosystem rooted in dignity, sustainability, and justice. Our fight for food justice on the South Side, and so much of what we have built together, would not have been possible without his steadfast support, deep knowledge, and commitment to the people and neighborhoods he loved.

We are profoundly grateful to have learned from him, worked alongside him, and benefited from the path he helped clear. May his legacy continue to nourish the work for generations to come.

Applications are now open for From Faith into Action: A Prophetic Framework for Social Change.

This six-week organizing cohort draws upon Islamic legal theory, theology, and the Prophetic biography to connect our moral commitments with the practical work of strengthening our communities.

Across six modules, participants will develop practical organizing skills, build collective capacity, and design a community action campaign. The program places the intellectual resources of the Prophetic tradition in conversation with the conditions facing our communities today, with a focus on sustained service, accountable leadership, and collective action that advances the common good.

Residents, students, and community leaders of all backgrounds are invited to apply. The cohort will meet in person at IMAN’s Chicago Lawn campus (2745 W. 63rd St, Chicago, IL, 60629) on Wednesdays, November 11th–December 9th, from 5–7pm.
