Is the future of artistic expression at stake? The Supreme Court will consider whether Andy Warhol's Prince paintings violate copyright law.

In The Andy Warhol foundation for the Visual Arts Inc. v. Goldsmith, Lynn Goldsmith is seeking remedy for the infringement of her photo. Shot in 1981, Vanity Fair magazine licensed Goldsmith's photo for a portrait as an "artist's reference". Lynn Goldsmith, however, thinks that this is not just a reference.

The Supreme Court will have to put on their art critic hats and answer some big questions for fair use in copyright law in the upcoming case.

The Richard Linn American Inn of Court is thrilled to congratulate CHIEF JUDGE Rebecca Pallmeyer on her investiture as the first female Chief Judge of the Northern District of Illinois! 👏👏👏 As a past President, current Judicial Counselor, and incredibly active member of the Inn, Chief Judge Pallmeyer has already provided us with a bird’s eye view into the benefits her brand of compassionate leadership can bestow on any organization. We have no doubt the District will benefit immeasurably from the same. Three cheers for the Chief! 👏👏👏🍾🥂 (Also, check out this wonderful article if you want to learn more about why those of us in the Inn and the Federal Bar are so excited about this moment in history: https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/criminal-justice/ct-rebecca-pallmeyer-first-female-chief-judge-20190704-e2te6rxyq5fath2wd5zamzkzma-story.html)
