AllianceChicago AllianceChicago a nonprofit advancing community health through collaboration, technology and research

AllianceChicago is dedicated to advancing community health for vulnerable populations through collaboration, technology, and research. Our efforts are focused in three core areas:

HEALTH CARE COLLABORATION
AllianceChicago provides exemplary, innovative health services that unite health care providers and consumers to optimize effectiveness, efficiency, experience, and outcomes. HEALTH INFORMATION

TECHNOLOGY
AllianceChicago is leading the way in improving health and health care delivery through the thoughtful use of leading-edge Health Information Technology (HIT) in the Safety Net. We provide optimal HIT solutions that maximize efficiency, streamline operations, and lower costs for community health centers. Our user community of 34 health centers, operating out of over 200 urban and rural sites in 14 states, have access to data analytics, clinical informatics, HIT hosting, technical assistance and consultation, and ongoing support. HEALTH RESEARCH + EDUCATION
AllianceChicago provides essential guidance that informs policy, health care delivery design, and clinical services to improve health, increase relevance and accessibility of health care, and eliminate disparities. Leveraging technology and communication methods and tools already within our network, we participate in a wide array of research that engages communities and clinicians in the most critical issues facing vulnerable populations. A key element is our electronic health record (EHR) hosting, providing a customized shared database that supports meaningful, nationwide research. We have strong relationships with academic partners, nursing centers, and other safety net organizations, and share research through an extensive range of publications and presentations.

This year’s Mental Health Month theme is “More Good Days, Together.”
A reminder that better outcomes start with connection, collaboration, and systems that truly support those in need.

AllianceChicago is proud to partner with the Illinois Department of Public Health on Improving Timely Referrals for Youth at Risk for Suicide—an initiative focused on strengthening continuity of care and closing critical gaps in referral systems across Illinois.

Join us for our Annual Stakeholder Meeting on June 10 (9 AM–3 PM CT) in Chicago. Together, we’ll explore data, share insights, and collaborate on solutions that support youth and help create more good days—together.

How is your team approaching AI in healthcare?

The new AI Action Guide from the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) offers practical guidance for health centers beginning their AI journey. We’re honored that the guide highlights the AI in Action: Practical Applications for Safety Net Providers series as a recommended resource.

Join us March 24 for our next AI in Action session as we explore how AI is being implemented in real care settings.

You’ll hear about an AI-powered virtual nursing program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and COPIAH COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER—a rural critical access hospital—designed to address workforce shortages, improve patient safety, and support care teams.

This session will highlight how thoughtful AI adoption can strengthen care delivery across safety-net settings.

Reducing unnecessary antibiotic use in children helps prevent antibiotic resistance, adverse drug events, and disruption to the developing microbiome.

AllianceChicago is implementing a PCORI-funded intervention as part of the Interventions to De-Implement Unnecessary Antibiotic Prescribing for Ear Infections (DISAPEAR) study to promote “watchful waiting” for pediatric acute otitis media (AOM) at FQHCs through shared decision making, clinician education, and EHR updates.

Check out the latest DISAPEAR publication in the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society: “Watchful Waiting for Children With Acute Otitis Media: Frequency of Use and Outcomes in Clinical Practice.” Link to article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12678167/

In this article, authors explain that watchful waiting was used in a small proportion of AOM cases in ambulatory practice settings across 3 health systems but resulted in similarly low rates of treatment failure and adverse outcomes compared to immediate antibiotic therapy. Expanding the use of watchful waiting may help reduce unnecessary antibiotic exposure among children with AOM.

Shout out to the DISAPEAR study team at AllianceChicago for their amazing work! Rashmi Narayan, MD, FAAP- Principal Investigator; Alice Eggleston, PA-C, MPH- Co-Investigator; Mimi Milanes, Research Program Manager and Aylin Hasan, Research Assistant
