It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew (Andy) Mourikes.

Andrew (Andy) Mourikes, age 64, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his adoring wife, Aagii and their daughter Andrea. Loving son of Joanne and the late Themis Mourikes. Fond son-in-law of Mukhgerel Bilgee. Brother-in-law of Crystal Barnes and Anika Agee. He was a beloved cousin, nephew and the favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a devoted godfather to many and his life was enriched through the deep relationships he had with his many loving Koubari. He also leaves behind countless other loving family members and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Andy was preceded in death by his loving father, Themis Mourikes (1993) who was a guiding force for Andy, throughout his life. While he enjoyed the city life, he treasured his summers on the island of Cephalonia, Greece—his father’s birthplace—which always held a special place in his heart.

A proud graduate of Lane Tech High School, Andy continued his studies at Northeastern University. Soon, he went on to join his family’s business International Foods, where he developed a deep appreciation for food, culture, and community.

Andy loved to travel with family and friends. It was on one of his many journeys, in 2003, that he met the love of his life and his eternal partner and wife, Aagii. In 2022, Andy and Aagii welcomed their greatest gift, their daughter Andrea, who brought Andy immense pride and happiness. Together, Andy and Aagii shared 21 joyful years of marriage filled with laughter, love, and mutual respect. His love for his family was unconditional and Andy’s loving presence will remain forever in their hearts.

Andy found peace and joy in the water. Whether exploring coral reefs or swimming at the beach in Cephalonia a reflection of his free spirit and deep connection to nature. Andy was committed to preserving the cultural heritage of his beloved Cephalonia and was a committed member and a longtime leader of the Cephalonia Brotherhood of Chicago. Andy was also a proud member of the AHEPA Shoreline Chapter #380.

Andy was rooted in his Greek Orthodox faith, which guided his life and values. His spirituality was quiet but steadfast, and he found comfort and meaning in the traditions of the Greek Church. His faith, combined with his kind heart, shaped the way he treated others—with respect and compassion. Known for his warmth and boundless generosity, Andy had many longlasting friendships and held close ties with loved ones both in the United States and Greece. Andy touched countless lives with his joyful spirit and open heart.

Visitation, Sunday August 24, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Avenue, Chicago, IL 60646. Visitation Monday August 25, 2025 9:30 am until the funeral service at 10:00 am at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Road, Glenview, IL 60025. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery 2905 N. Thatcher Rd. River Grove, IL 60171.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Andy's memory for his beloved daughter, Andrea's college fund would be appreciated.

With profound sorrow, but with the unshakable hope of the Resurrection, we announce the falling asleep in the Lord of our beloved spiritual father and former pastor, Rev. Protopresbyter Fr. Panagiotis Malamis, who reposed on June 25, 2025.

Fr. Panagiotis faithfully shepherded the flock of St. Demetrios for over five decades with unwavering devotion, paternal love, and spiritual discernment. As a true laborer in the vineyard of the Lord, he offered his heart, mind, and soul in tireless service to Christ and His Holy Church. With the gentleness of a spiritual father and the firmness of a wise guide, he nurtured generations of faithful through the holy sacraments, heartfelt preaching, and the living witness of a life steeped in prayer, humility, and sacrificial love.

His pastoral presence was marked by compassion in times of sorrow, joy in moments of celebration, and a deep commitment to the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church. He bore the burdens of his flock with quiet strength, offering counsel with wisdom, visiting the sick with tenderness, and ministering to all with Christ-like mercy and patience.

Fr. Panagiotis is deeply mourned by his beloved wife, Presvytera Theodora, a steadfast companion in his sacred ministry, by their nine children, twenty-seven grandchildren, three great-grand children and by the countless faithful whose lives were indelibly touched and uplifted by his presence, his prayers, and his pastoral care. His legacy endures in the hearts of all who knew him, and in the life of the parish he so faithfully served.

We encourage all parishioners and friends to attend, pray, and offer their love and support to the Malamis family as we give thanks to God for the life and ministry of this faithful servant.

May the memory of the ever-blessed and ever-memorable father Panagiotis Malamis be eternal.

Please help Ms. Benezis with any information you may have.

“ Hello, fellow Cephalonians! I currently live in Athens Greece but many years ago, in the early 1980's, I had attended one or two Anniversary dinners while I was still living in Milwaukee. Can someone please help me with some information: Can you tell me the name of the Church where the Anniversary luncheon or dinner might have been held? I believe it was after the Church Service, in the adjoining hall… I’m trying to remember the name of the Church… Was it St. Demetrios? In Des Plaines? If I'm right, can any one provide me with the address of the church? I remember that you could see the Church from the expressway, somewhere between the airport and the way back up to Milwaukee. I think it had a blue dome. I greatly appreciate any and all help. Thank you in advance! Olivia Benezis”
