The Grand Opening Ceremony Watch Party for the Obama Presidential Center will take place on the Midway Plaisance on Thursday, June 18, along with other grand opening programming happening from June 19 to June 21.
The grand opening is going to have a noticeable impact on parking and transportation on The University of Chicago's campus and the surrounding communities.
Starting on Monday, June 8, there will be several road closures and parking restrictions that continue through Monday, June 22.
Beginning June 15, the Midway will be closed to traffic and parking in both directions between Woodlawn and Dorchester avenues. Those restrictions will extend to Ellis Avenue from June 17 to June 19.
With numerous street closures and parking restrictions on the Midway Plaisance, and visitors competing for available parking, the University is opening most campus garages and surface lots to designated UChicago Medicine Employees. Those with permitted parking in these locations should expect garages to be busier than usual and possibly full.
The University's core functions, including transportation services, will remain in operation, but most UGo Shuttle routes will be affected by the street closures.
