🤩 EVENT RECAP: I-NOMA sponsors the 2026 Black Women in Architecture Brunch Chicago! 🤩

Thank you to the over 60+ attendees at this year’s brunch, including AEC professionals, students and allied professionals – all in support of the Black Women in Architecture - Chicago.

The brunch kicked off with catering by Batter & Berries, a local black owned restaurant followed by a panel and book discussion of “Black Women in the Built Environment Ten Voices of Chicago.” The authors / panelists discussed their experience working in architecture and how they shaped not only their own careers but the practice of architecture in Chicago.

We are proud to say that the Chicago location is part of a larger national group that held its brunch and programming at 15 other locations across the country on Sunday. We were even lucky to host a few out-of-town participants who couldn’t make it to their local event.

The author / panelist for the event included: Joclyn Oats, Moderator, Anne Palmore, Maya Bird-Murphy, Clemenstien Love, Kimberly Dowdell, Danielle Tillman, AIA, NOMA, Sharon Samuels and, Chris Annmarie Spencer, AIA, NOMA, LFA.

Thank you to all our members and guests for joining our September General Body Meeting hosted at our sponsor Elm Surfaces showroom! 🌺

We were thrilled to welcome guests from Arquitectos in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month as we are committed to celebrate other Allied Professional organizations with similar missions and values as ours. Our event featured a panel discussion moderated by our Vice President Monica Willemsen with guest speakers Erica Fuentes, Julia Mosqueda, and Jose Espejo sharing about their experiences across the Chicago AEC industry. We look forward to more collaborative events with Arquitectos and celebrating our members. Be on the lookout for our next General Body Meeting in November!

Join AIA Chicago’s EDI Committee, I-NOMA, and the Experimental Station for an active, eight-mile guided bike tour through the Woodlawn, Bronzeville, and Grand Crossing neighborhoods. Starting at Experimental Station’s cultural hub, this tour explores new urban interventions that go far beyond striking aesthetics to serve as vital community anchors.

Participants will engage directly with members of I-NOMA, AIA Chicago, project leaders, and community users, experiencing the built environment at a pedestrian-focused pace that demonstrates how equitable design enriches daily life. The tour features both interior and exterior stops along the route.

The I-NOMA 2026 Design Build Program is back! High school students will get hands-on experience in architecture, design, and construction while working with professionals to transform a youth workshop space at Concordia Place.

Students: Incoming freshmen–12th grade
When: Saturdays, September 12–December 5 | 10 AM–2 PM
Where: 3300 N Whipple St, Chicago
Cost: $75 (scholarships available)

Volunteers are needed to mentor students and support design, construction, procurement, curriculum, logistics, and more. Bring your skills, learn something new, and help shape the next generation of designers.

⭐️Celebrating 20 Years of Project Pipeline Summer Camp ⭐️

This year we had over 50 students join us back at Crown Hall at IIT for another successful year of Project Pipeline Summer Camp. Thank you to Committee Chairs Esther Mumbi & Deonante Sutton, who spent countless hours making this camp all come together this year. Thank you to the I-NOMA Executive Board and Committee Chairs, volunteers, parents, mentors and our sponsors who helped us make this one of the best years of camp!

We are so proud of the impact of our program and looking forward to sharing its continued success! Be on the look out for our continued & upcoming pipeline efforts: Design Build Camp, ARE Study Group & NOMAS Mentor Program.
