My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in November 2011. I had just moved to Los Angeles with my wife, and not knowing how long he had left, began scheduling flights back to see him in Michigan. At least once a month I would fly back, rent a car, and spend 3-4 days reminiscing about good times with my dad, and creating some new memories to treasure. During this extremely stressful sp
an, I spent a lot of time on airplanes, and when I wasn’t focused on the idea of losing him, I thought about people in similar situations who couldn’t afford to do what I was doing. I couldn’t imagine not being able to see him that one last time before he was gone. So one Sunday, Jess and I were sitting our backyard, and I posted the idea on my FB page. Within minutes there were tons of comments that became the early stages of ideation for this organization. A few months after beginning The Extra Mile, my dad passed away, but not before seeing the early sketches of the plans. I’m creating this in his honor, to help others, because that’s what he would do. THE MISSION
Our mission is to connect loved ones utilizing donated miles and points from our supporters. We are an organization designed to bring people together. Specifically those with critically ill loved ones around the country, that cannot otherwise afford to see them, in this very important time. By collecting donated air miles from our supporters, we aim to relieve the burden of an already very stressful time. Go the Extra Mile by giving yours. www.thextramile.org
