For many years, West Town, Wicker Park, and Bucktown were the heart of Chicago’s “Polish Downtown”. Functioning as the capital of American Polonia, the headquarters of nearly every major Polish organization in the United States was once clustered in the vicinity of Polonia Triangle.
Join us we explore this area’s importance to the history of the United States as well as Poland on several walking tours. We will highlight the connections between this part of the Windy City and figures such as pianist Ignace Paderewski, preservationist Richard Nickel, photographer Vivian Maier, artist Stanislav Szukalski, as well as Nobel Prize laureate Henryk Sienkiewicz among many others.
