Dear friends and neighbors,
Assalamu alaikum. The below message is from the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago. All are welcome to attend an event this weekend described below, particularly those who are involved in interfaith social justice work. Find RSVP info at the bottom of the message.
We are inviting you to attend the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago (CRLMC) event, "Festival of Faiths - Love Thy Neighbor" on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church at 5649 North Sheridan Road in Chicago. The program will be followed by a reception with food and beverage.
The focus of the program is "Love your neighbor as yourself". One may ask, is this possible? Is this just a nice idea? Or do we need a reality check? In recent months many issues including immigration, bigotry and racism, gun violence and unequal education have grabbed the headlines and at the same time divided us as a community, a city and a nation. How do we respond to everything and everyone around us? How do we love our neighbor?
Reverend Dr. B. Herbert Martin, Sr., Senior Pastor of Progressive Community Church and CRLMC Vice President will deliver the Keynote presentation focusing "Love Thy Neighbor". He will be followed by responses from Rabbi Michael Balinsky, Executive Vice President of the Chicago Board of Rabbis and previous CRLMC President; Mr. Azam Nizamuddin, Adjunct Professor of Theology at Loyola University and President of the Muslim Bar Association; and Ms. Andrea Zopp, Deputy Mayor and Chief Neighborhood Development Officer for the City of Chicago. Afterward all those attending will discuss in small groups three questions based on the keynote and responses and then report out to the entire assembly.
RSVP to Mr. Nisan Chavkin, Director of Operations and Special Projects. You can contact him at [email protected] or 847.722.6921, if you have any questions. All are welcome.
