Cultura in Pilsen

We are very sad to share that La Catrina Cafe, who so graciously offered to share their space with Cultura in Pilsen when we were displaced from our 19th/Carpenter location a few years ago, will be closing the doors to their event space and patio starting in April. The cafe and small side room will remain open and La Catrina will continue hosting limited events in the smaller space. They are holding a sale of their furniture; for those interested, please see the La Catrina Cafe page or message them.

As gentrification raises rents and property taxes in the community, not only are our friends and families who grew up in and built the community being displaced, but also our community spaces and local small businesses are being lost. This is why we say gentrification is neither a 'natural' or 'positive' process for any neighborhood where it occurs. It is getting more and more difficult to find affordable & accessible spaces for people to gather and share their art, work and resources with each other. The loss of La Catrina's event space (which was often offered free of cost) will prove to be a big blow to the neighborhood and to us at Cultura in Pilsen, pero seguimos adelante.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, we will be closing the doors to our event space and patio. We want to thank the community for occupying our space. There were many memorable events which took place here. We have spent a lot of time as a community here and we cannot thank you enough for sharing this with us. We will continue to be of service to our community, we’re just going to be a little smaller.
