MOSTRA (meaning "exhibit” in Portuguese) is the largest Brazilian film festival in the midwest. Presented by the non-profit organization Partners of the Americas - Illinois-Sao Paulo Chapter, the annual event’s motto is “Brazilian Films with Social Conscience.” MOSTRA has as its venues many educational and cultural institu

tions in the greater Chicago area to foster conversations about social issues, culture, politics, history, and the environment among the academic community, filmmakers, students and socially conscious individuals at large.

🎬 CLOSING NIGHT (11/15) – “MANAS” (SISTERS)

Join us for the closing night film of the MOSTRA XVI Brazilian Film Festival in Chicago, featuring the winner of the Director’s Award in the Giornate Degli Autori section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival - Manas (Sisters), directed by Marianna Brennand Fortes in her directorial debut. The film explores the story of a teenage girl who confronts a cycle of abuse in her family and community on Marajo Island in the Amazon.

Join us for the fifteenth screening of the MOSTRA XVI Brazilian Film Festival back in the Chicago area, featuring an encore screening of the film Milton Bituca Nascimento - directed by Flavia Moraes, a documentary about the farewell tour of Milton Nascimento, one of the greatest Brazilian artists of all time. This screening will additionally be preceded by a live musical presentation as well as a screening of the short film “Macaléa”.
