The Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry The Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry serves the residents of North Lawndale and Little Village in Chicago, IL who need emergency food aid. St. Odillo's and St.

Located near the corner of Central Park and Cermak in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, IL. It is on the lower level of the Learning Center (http://tlcchicago.org), which provides the space rent free. The Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry is part of St. Agatha's Parish Ministry in Chicago, IL. It is a Greater Chicago Food Depository site. Luke Parish in River Forest, IL is the major donor. T

he Food Pantry serves 60-65 families of Hispanic and African American heritage per week. The number of families changes regularly, but has increased over the past few months. Other parishes, such as St. Michael's, also support the Food Pantry during big feast days of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Families receiving emergency food aid live in the area of Chicago bounded by Pulaski Rd. on the west, Kedzie Ave. on the east, 13th St. on the north, and 31st St. on the south. Hours of operation:
12:45pm - 3:00pm Wednesday

The Greater Chicago Food Depository provides most of the food and produce, but donations are always needed, especially:

Cereal (hot and cold)
Pasta and rice
Canned veggies, fruits, and beans
Canned soups and stews
Peanut butter
Coffee and tea
Hand soap, toothpaste, toilet paper

Monetary donations are also accepted and are used to buy much needed items, such as meat. Luke parishioners can drop off non-perishable food and personal care items at the Lake St. entrance of the church, in the baskets provided. For monetary donations, please contact Tony Graefe (number in the parish directory). Volunteers keep the Food Pantry running, preparing and distributing bags. Some of the dedicated volunteers are:

Turkey Sunday is November 24. Volunteers are needed to pick up food ordered from Caputo's and to pack bags of food at the Blessed Sacrament Youth Center.

THANK YOU to all that volunteered and donated yesterday. Turkey Sunday was another success! Especially thank you to Beth Anne Tupin and The Meyer Family (Pat, Ute, Phil, Sammy) for organizing and directing the bagging and distribution at Blessed Sacrament, and St. Luke Youth Ministry for again providing many hard-working volunteers. Turkey Sunday couldn't be done without all of you!

TODAY is Turkey Sunday!! Collections have been underway for a few hours already at St. Luke. The "Power Shopping" crew will be meeting at Caputo's in 2 hours to pick up the purchased food and bring it over to Blessed Sacrament. St. Luke Youth Ministry and some veteran adult Turkey Sunday-ers will be sorting and distributing the food this afternoon. Thank you to all the participated and donated!

For Turkey Sunday this year, we are again buying food from Caputo's to provide Thanksgiving dinner to 240 families. To provide this meal for each family, we are buying:
24 cases of potatoes
15 cases of onions
10 cases of carrots
7 cases of celery
24 cases of sweet potatoes
18 cases of canned corn
18 cases of canned beans
11 cases of cranberries
259 bags of stuffing
and 160 frozen turkeys.

Your cash donations to buy this food and donations of frozen turkeys (we need 60 more!) and non-perishable foods are greatly appreciated. Checks should be payable to St. Luke with "Turkey Sunday" on the memo line.

We look forward to seeing you from 7:15am-1:15pm this Sunday at the Lake Street entrance to St. Luke! THANK YOU for your tremendous generosity.

Turkey Sunday is only 12 days away - November 18th! This year, we will be gathering food for 240 families from the Learning Center, the Blessed Sacrament Sacrament Food Pantry, the Blessed Sacrament Senior Citizens group, the Blessed Sacrament Youth Center, and St. Agatha. We estimate that we will be spending $30 per family to buy the food. Please bring your non-perishable food and FROZEN turkeys to all masses at St. Luke on the 18th. Checks should be made out to "St. Luke" with "Turkey Sunday" in the memo line. Thank you for your generosity. Contact Tony Graefe is you have any questions.

Turkey Sunday will be here before you know it! Thanksgiving is a bit early this year, so mark Sunday, November 18th on your calendars. Non-perishable food items, frozen turkeys, and monetary donations will be collected at St. Luke church from 7:15am-1:15pm. Distribution at the Blessed Sacrament Youth Center will be from 2pm-3:30pm. Volunteers and pick-up trucks/SUVs are still needed! Contact us on our FB page, or give Tony Graefe a call!

Thanks to Chris & Joe Manion for all the furniture from their former house in River Forest! It helped a lot of people!
