In November, 30 Beauty program students graduated and were ready to take their national certification exam. But due to funding limitations, those graduates have yet to take the exam - a critical step to earning employment in Kenya’s beauty industry.

The good news: we funded 18 out of 30 grads’ exam fees, thanks to your support! We need your support today to fund the remaining 12 exam fees. It costs just $60 to cover the exam fees for one graduate.

Today, we were honored to welcome a high-level delegation from the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi, led by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár and Ambassador Maroš Mitrík.

The delegation spent time with the young women at the heart of RefuSHE’s work, engaging with aspiring fashion designers in our dressmaking program, students preparing for examinations in our nail art and beauty class, and participants in our digital literacy lab. They also met RefuSHE artisans and learned more about the craftsmanship and entrepreneurship behind their work.

As part of the visit, the Embassy presented a €10,000 contribution in support of our digital literacy program. To date, more than 100 refugee girls have completed the program, gaining practical digital skills that complement their vocational training and expand their opportunities for the future.

We are deeply grateful to the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi for their continued partnership and investment in refugee girls and young women.

Meet Linet Yar, a refugee who fled civil war in her home country of South Sudan 🇸🇸 in search of a better life in Nairobi. Linet enrolled in RefuSHE’s Fashion & Design 🧵👗 program and is now starting her career in Nairobi’s thriving fashion industry.

2025 - RefuSHE’s 18th year - was a year of tremendous impact amidst global funding shortages and continued instability across East Africa. Cohort 2 of our functional literacy and numeracy program is underway, and the momentum from last year is carrying us forward.

In 2025, in our first cohort graduated with skills that many of us take for granted: reading, writing, and basic math. Skills that unlock something bigger than they sound. The ability to fill out a form without asking for help. To serve a customer confidently. To send a message and know it says what you meant.

Displacement cuts off schooling. Host countries don't always pick up where conflict left off. RefuSHE, with the generous support of the Zakat Foundation of America, is stepping into that gap for refugee women in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
