Our first podcast of 2025! 😄 We're attempting video podcasts this year 🤩 In this episode of the Imitating Jesus podcast, host Ryan Seibert and guests Lewie Clark and Anna Robinson discuss the essential role of singles in kingdom leadership, as highlighted in Lewie's new book, 'Single-Minded Service.' They explore the unique opportunities and challenges faced by singles in the church, address biases and misconceptions, and emphasize the importance of community and belonging for singles within the body of Christ. The conversation encourages singles to take initiative in creating their own communities and highlights the significant impact they can have on families and the church as a whole. We’re kicking off our new podcast season with the light topic of deconstruction 😜🙃

Are you curious… What is deconstruction? Why does it happen? Is it good or bad? What is it about our cultural moment that contributes to deconstruction? What do I do with the internal dissonance I feel about God, the Bible, church, my faith, etc? What is the role of questions, doubts, and resistance in my discipleship process?

Join Ryan and Lewie and our guests, Jeff Hayden and Anna Robinson, around the table as they share their thoughts and personal experiences with this important and relevant topic.

🤩 MINISTRY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT 🤩

“We are honored to help support Icon Ministries. We love their hearts and how they are so genuine in hands-on caring for those they disciple. We feel, especially now, there is such a need for discipleship. Icon not only cares for the emotional and physical needs of others, but also a lasting and eternal kingdom impact on a disciple’s life.”

Jeff and Jacquie Bachman

As we launch into 2024, we’re reminded again that our work is enlivened and propelled forward by our Ministry Partners. Thank you, Bachman’s, and all our amazing Ministry Partners, for your faithful support and for being an essential part of the Icon family! You are wind in our sails.

More than 20,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago from the southern border since 2022, fleeing danger and seeking a better life in America. In the midst of this humanitarian crisis and a city grappling with how to handle the massive influx, there is an incredible opportunity for the church in Chicago (and beyond) to practice welcome, hospitality, and care.

We desire to act and advocate on behalf of our new neighbors and support other churches doing the same. Our team has been actively participating in the areas below and wants to raise funds in order to continue:

-welcoming new arrivals with dignity and meet basic needs
-connecting migrants to resources that put them on a path to resettlement, support and community
-providing more trauma trainings for pastors, community leaders, and migrants
-being spiritual companions as we make disciples through love, friendship and hospitality

Your donation could make a big difference for these migrants in 2024! This holiday season, give the gift of welcome by making a donation at the link in our bio or through your Venmo account to . 🎁

“Having a spiritual mentor is one of the strongest factors for helping young people develop a resilient faith - one that grows and sustains them over time and helps guide them toward meaning and purpose in life.” --David Kinnaman, Barna CEO

Many of us know young people (or were those people ourselves) who left the church, walked away from their faith, or struggle to find the community, support and meaning they long for in life. Research shows, and our experience at Icon confirms, that what makes the difference in the life of a college student is a mentor.

The Chicagoland area boasts many top-ranked colleges and is the nation's third largest college town. And our staff has decades of experience making disciples among college students through love, friendship and hospitality. And we look forward to decades more as opportunities abound!

We see the impact in their lives first-hand and we know that this work is so important. Consider giving a year-end gift that will help us continue to be spiritual mentors for the next generation of leaders, helping college students grow a resilient faith that offers them meaning and purpose in life. This holiday season, give the gift of resilient faith.

Your donation will help us engage with students as they are, create an environment of love and belonging, and cast a kingdom vision that inspires their potential in the family of God.

We host our friend and co-worker, Anna Robinson, on The Role of Community in Disciple-Making. We talk about various aspects of and ideas for being a disciple and making disciples in good company.

Jesus formed a group of twelve men and for twenty-seven months he loved these disciples and he taught them how to love the other men in the group. Jesus instructs his disciples, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34

The process of making disciples today should be little different than what Jesus first showed us. A discipler guides a group of men and women in how to receive love and how to love others. This discipling experience moves a person towards flourishing by being in mutual love with God and with fellow disciples because, “God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16

The evidence that disciples are maturing is their ability to love others and to receive love.

We kick off this fresh series by talking about The Role of Scripture in Disciple-Making with our friend, Monica Vanover - a woman who's a leader of our spiritual family in Chicago and a bible college graduate committed to God's Word to guide us and bring life to us.

In Part 1 Monica shares about her own experiences with scripture as both a disciple and disciple-maker, ways to elevate and incorporate scripture in our relationships, and how to tailor-make the disciple-making experience for each unique person. We had too much to talk about, so we made a Part 2 :)

In this episode Monica answers the question, "If you were speaking to a room full of Christian pastors and leaders, what concerns would you address about how the Bible is represented in the disciple-making process?" We also discuss misconceptions about the Bible, giving people access to your life so they can see scripture come alive and lived out, Bible study and learning disabilities, and using scripture in our families with our children.

🎧 Listen to Part 1 and 2 at the link in our bio.
