Neighborhood Connection Project

Neighborhood Connection Project NCP is a citizen-led collaborative community initiative to repair and beautify our underpass In the case of NCP, we will use golden tiles.

Started in the Spring of 2010, the NCP is a citizen-led initiative to build community by repairing and beautifying the Metra railroad underpass located at LeHigh, Hiawatha and Kinzua. After securing the input and support of a diverse cross section of the citizens, civics, businesses and the wider community, as well as the support of the 41st ward Aldermanic Office for required pre-beautification r

epairs to the underpass, our local artists set to work on the design. The themes of the mural were decided by the community and the actual art reflects both our neighborhood's history, as well as the greenery, vegetation and the predecessors of our area. We were then thankfully joined by our ongoing partners, After School Matters (ASM) and Green Star Movement (GSM) who worked with teen interns funded by ASM and our local artists and community volunteers to put up the bricolage mural. Phase I of the underpass beautification efforts on the East wall were completed in the summer of 2013 and the Phase II West wall was completed in August of 2014. The underpass mural will be completed in Phase III in the summer of 2015 when we join the two bricolage murals together in the center the same way our American railroads were completed...by meeting in the middle with a golden stake. Upon completion the underpass bricolage project will be the largest outdoor public art mural in Chicago's Northwest side.

Another great event connecting our neighborhood!

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback to our survey regarding the Edgebrook Block Party! Everyday Edgebrook always wants to make sure that we are bringing the community what they want. We respect that we all have different opinions, so we want to align our vision with the wants of the majority of the community. By the way, we were also floored by the amount of people who showed an initial interest in volunteering for this event!
