Loyola's Sustainability Leader Earns National Honor!

Loyola University Chicago continues to earn national recognition for its leadership in sustainability, highlighted by Director of Sustainability Aaron N. Durnbaugh’s selection as a 2026 Fellow by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). One of just ten professionals chosen for this highly competitive honor, and only the second cohort since the fellowship’s creation, Durnbaugh is recognized for his significant contributions to advancing sustainability in higher education. AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser praised his “outstanding leadership and dedication,” noting the lasting impact of his work across the field.

1200 West Loyola Avenue Update

As previously reported in Loyola Neighborhood News in April, Loyola University Chicago is conducting telecommunication cabling work on the west side of Sheridan Rd to bring upgraded lighting and safety features to the 1200 block of West Loyola Avenue after hearing from neighbors through our 2024 and 2025 campus planning survey.

The next phase of this work will take place south of the L-embankment from mid-June until mid-July. For intermittent short periods of time, commuters and pedestrians should be aware of temporary sidewalk closures and temporary vehicle lane closures as crews push cable under the street from east-to-west; seen as a red line in the above diagram. Please exercise caution and awareness in the area once construction begins.

Camps are open to all participants and focus on skill development, teamwork, and confidence-building in a supportive environment. Space may be limited based on age and capacity, so early registration is encouraged. Join us this summer and elevate your game with Loyola!

Keeping Our Community Clean: 27.4 Tons at a Time!

Student move-out brings a lot of leftover clutter. To protect our local streets, Loyola University Chicago stepped in to handle the extra trash.

The Impact: 27.4 tons of trash removed from local neighborhood alleys.

The Visual: That is the weight of about 15 standard cars!

The Bonus: This extra service was 100% funded and coordinated by Loyola. No city tax dollars used. No landlord fees required.
