Women and Leadership Archives at Loyola University Chicago Welcome to the official page of the Women and Leadership Archives at Loyola University Chicago

Established in 1994, the Women and Leadership Archives (WLA) collects and makes available permanently valuable records of women and women’s organizations, which document women’s lives, roles, and contributions. The Women and Leadership Archives has its roots in Mundelein College, which was founded and operated by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), and provided education to women from 1930 to 1991, when it affiliated with Loyola University Chicago. After the affiliation, Mundelein’s spirit lived on in the creation of the Ann Ida Gannon, BVM, Center for Women and Leadership. The Women and Leadership Archives grew out of the need to preserve Mundelein College records and expanded to collect papers of women leaders. Collection strengths include the subject areas of activism and women’s issues; authors; education; environmental issues; public service; social justice; women religious; and the fine, performance, and visual arts. The WLA is part of the Ann Ida Gannon, BVM, Center for Women and Leadership and Loyola University Libraries. Visit our website for more information or to view our collections.

It was great to spend the afternoon at Loyola's Wellness Fair on 9/30! We provided plants for students who could then decorate or bedazzle the pots. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table!

We are sad to share that today is Chanelle Davis' last day as WLA Archives Associate. Chanelle has been in the position for a little over a year, and we are grateful for all her efforts, including supporting class visits and researchers, coordinating social media and communications, participating in outreach and other programming, and processing archival collections. We will miss her and wish her the very best in her new role at the South Side Community Art Center! Please join us in thanking Chanelle! 👏

Today, Dolly Parton Day is officially recognized by dozens of cities and counties across the U.S. in honor of the late artist, philanthropist, and literacy advocate. In addition to the many social causes she supported, Dolly recognized the importance of women’s work. She creatively conveyed the sentiment in the 1980 “9 to 5” film and song. We remember Dolly not only for her artistry but for her commitment to amplifying women’s voices. If you are interested in other stories about women’s work, we invite you to join us on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 3-6 pm on the Third Floor of Piper Hall for the WLA Open House: Archives After Dark! 🔨More details here: https://libcal.luc.edu/event/17444843
