People enjoyed “Guardians of the Earth and Sky” Saturday afternoon, August 17th, 2024 in the Japanese Garden in Jackson Park. This event told the story of the four celestial guardians and allowed the audience to explore seasons, elements, colors and constellations through storytelling, music and dance.

In order to completely appreciate this image, you have to know Louise McCurry. She has served Jackson Park and the lakefront for over 30 years. She was the President of the Jackson Park Advisory Council for over 10 years. Under Mayor Daley, she was awarded as the number one parks volunteer in the city of Chicago.

This image was taken at 65th street right across from Jackson Park. According to her, this is one of her favorite places to relax and meditate.

Dear JPAC Members,
I would like to thank each of you who attended Monday’s, February 13th JPAC meeting. During this meeting we discussed the need to form various committees for the coming year.

A form was distributed that listed multiple committees that we would like to create this year. Each committee will require a Chair and multiple Members. Several forms were collected that indicated the choices that many of our members have selected. If possible, please consider resubmitting your form electronically. This will allow us the ability to capture the data and store it more efficiently. The link is listed below.

If you were not able to attend February’s meeting, the form can be access via the link below. Please utilize this form to indicate your interest in serving on, or even chairing a committee that might interest you.

Please note that contractors for the Osaka Garden have removed the moon bridge this morning (February 2nd, 2023). The moon bridge has been fenced in and unusable since the vandalism this past summer. The Jackson Park Advisory Council was recently informed by the park district that the bridge will be rebuilt before the 2023 summer by a contractor with specialized experience in traditional Japanese construction techniques.
