UIC Student Action We are a student-led grassroots organization at UIC that organizes for economic, racial, and gender justice both on and off campus

UIC Student Action is a student-led grassroots organization at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) that organizes for economic, racial, and gender justice both on and off campus. We are a chapter of Chicago Student Action, a citywide student power organization, and The People's Lobby, a metro Chicago-wide community organization. We believe that by making our campus community more aware, by

organizing around shared self-interest, and by working with like-minded student organizations and community organizers around the city of Chicago, we will be able to make substantive change both on our campus, and in our city, county, and state.

Thank you all for showing up to our whiteboard campaign for improved access to mental health services!

We are meeting with the director of counseling center this coming week, and we want to let him know about students' experiences with the center and mental health services on-campus. Please take a couple minutes to share your thoughts (even if you've never accessed mental health services on-campus)! Responses are completely anonymous unless you leave your contact information, and we will not share anyone's contact information with the director. Thank you, and feel free to share because we want as many stories and experiences as possible!

Mental health resources on campus is really a racial, gender, & economic justice issue too. While tabling for these photos, so many black women & other people of color came by our table and said things like, I tried to get help & it wasn't available. BUT they also have money to build a bunch of new buildings on campus????????

The Faculty Senate just approved a resolution also supporting a $10 increase in student fees to fund more counselors at UIC. Students & faculty both know that the Counseling Center isn't actually serving students who are most in need of mental health resources, and UIC needs to prioritize caring for its students, not building new construction!

So many students & professors shared why they need access to better mental health services. This is a huge issue and UIC needs to prioritize caring for its students, not building new buildings no one asked for. Our lives are at stake.

We support Fearless Undocumented Alliance and their demands for undocumented students at UIC. None of us are free until all of us are free ✊🏾

FUA's demands include:
1. Center for Student Involvement to respect FUA and the work we do
2. Mandatory faculty training to ensure professors, advisors, councilors, administrators and all other staff understand the needs of undocumented students
3. No collaboration with DHS/ICE to ensure physical and mental safety for undocumented students
4. A mental health center for undocumented students

Come through to show solidarity with our graduate students. It should not take 29 bargaining sessions and a three week long strike for graduate students to be paid a living wage. It should be expected of our administration, and all employers in this country.

Undergraduates stand in solidarity with the GEO!

Between our ongoing strike and the looming possibility of the faculty going on strike too, UIC undergrads are fed up with the administration. They're calling for a boycott of classes today & tomorrow, and will join GEO tomorrow at noon for a rally in the quad! They've also created this petition: https://bit.ly/2YPeh6j We stand with our students just as they stand with us.

The UIC Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) needs your help and solidarity! Over 1500 Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants at the University of Illinois at Chicago have been working without a contract for over 5 months, and GEO has been in negotiations with the university administration...

The 2019 budget that City Council just passed is not a budget for the people. Mental health services, domestic violence support, and homelessness programs are barely being funded, while the Chicago Police Department will get $81 million more in 2019 than in 2018 - not even including the $95 million for the proposed cop academy.

This is not a budget that works for young people and students in Chicago. This is not a budget that works for disabled people and folks with mental illness. This isn't a budget for Black and brown neighborhoods and poor and working people. We need a budget for everyone, not just the wealthy few!

The OUR Budget Coalition is creating a visionary budget for Chicago based on what our communities want and need. We want to hear from you about what you want Chicago to fund. Take the survey here: http://bit.ly/OURBudgetSurvey
