Congratulations to Kennedy-King College valedictorian Tamara: Adult Education graduate, future therapist, parent, and Timuel D. Black Scholar.

After returning to the classroom 17 years after earning her GED, Tamara embraced resilience and discipline as a non‑traditional student, earning a perfect GPA and finding her calling in social work. Her journey is a testament to growth, advocacy, and the belief that it’s never too late to pursue your goals.

She also took advantage of the Timuel D. Black Jr. Scholarship & Fellowship program, which honors the life and legacy of Dr. Black. It helps students with tuition, books, and fees as they engage in leadership development experiences to enhance their ability to positively impact Chicago communities.

Today, we kick off and celebrate how City Colleges of Chicago connects students to meaningful, career-building opportunities - and how the City Colleges of Chicago Foundation supports them along the way.

This year's Harold Washington College valedictorian Radu's Aon apprenticeship allowed him to build a strong professional network and the skills to produce meaningful work, while the Aon Apprenticeship Scholarship helped remove financial barriers by covering his tuition, books, and fees.
