Become We are an innovative movement building organization that facilitates authentic community leadership Become was officially incorporated in January of 2013.

However, a collective of Become members and other associated nonprofit organizations have been working to amplify the impact of organizations and bolster civic engagement in bettering community systems for over three years. Our Founder and CEO has been conducting this work for nearly 10 years. In communities in Chicago and beyond, we have enhanced resources, helped nonprofit staff and leadership to feel “empowered” and “creative” , fostered an empowering organizational culture, engaged community members in program development, restructured and enhanced programming, obtained funding support for effective programs, amplified the impact of programming to save more lives and prevent risky behavior, built a working and sustained coalition, and collectively worked towards a greater strategy towards social justice.

Communities have the answer. We just have to listen.

That belief is at the heart of BECOME’s work and it’s why we launched the Culturally Responsive Community Transformation (CRCT) initiative.

In partnership with True Believers Community Connections (TBCC) and the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation (GAGDC), BECOME listened to what community members said they needed most: unity, care, and peace.

Together, we’re turning those insights into action and building toward communities where people can thrive with greater peace, safety, self-governance, and collective power.

But this work takes investment. When you donate to BECOME, you’re investing in communities and in the people who already hold the knowledge, vision, and answers to create meaningful change.

Even $1 is an investment in what’s possible. Give today and help us keep listening, building, and transforming communities from the inside out.

Systems we own. Systems we run. Built for our wellbeing from day one, not added on later.

That's what Dr. Dominica McBride is calling for, and it's what BECOME has been building for thirteen years. Read her words. Then think about what it would mean for your community to own its own systems too.

To achieve this goal, we have to invest in building these systems. Even $1 is an investment in community power and a future built for our wellbeing.

Your contribution helps BECOME keep building what communities deserve to own. Give what you can. Invest in what’s possible.

Most programs build dependency. We build the opposite. 💛

Self-evaluating — communities measuring their own outcomes.
Self-sustaining — systems that run without outside funding.
Self-led — leadership that comes from within.

That's what your $100 funds. Not a program that ends when the grant does. Infrastructure that communities own — permanently.

Are you in? → https://www.weallbecome.org/ 🔗

TODAY WE NEED YOU.

For over a decade, we've watched BECOME make one thing clear: the finish line isn't a program, it's self-determination.

The communities we work alongside in Chicagoland aren't looking for a handout or a handler. They're looking for the infrastructure to lead themselves, permanently.
That means trained evaluators embedded inside neighborhoods. Research they own. Systems they built. Data they control.

At BECOME, we measure success by how little they need us when it's done.
That's not charity. That's investment in something that lasts.

TODAY WE NEED YOU.

📌 We’re looking for our first 100 people to give $100💸 to kick this campaign off right!

Power grows when it is shared.

Meaningful participation is not solely about being present; it's about having the opportunity to influence decisions, ask important questions, and help shape what comes next. When more people are included, communities become stronger, more responsive, and more just.

For the month of July, BECOME invites you to reflect on Power in Practice: Voice, Participation, & Decision-Making. Think about a recent decision that affected you or your community. Where does your voice have the power to create more access, understanding, or possibility for others? Be sure to share your thoughts below or send us a message to learn how you can put your voice into action.

On March 21st in Chicago, we gathered to celebrate the power of community-led evaluation through BECOME’s Community Evaluation Innovation Lab (CEIL). Together, we honored the growth of our evaluators, recognized our Founding Cohort for two years of dedicated learning, and uplifted the role of culturally responsive evaluation in advancing community transformation.

This celebration was more than a milestone—it was a reminder of what’s possible when lived experience and community wisdom lead the way.

If you’re inspired by this approach, we’d love to connect. Partner with BECOME to co-create evaluation strategies that center lived experience and drive action in your community.

What recent milestones or moments of growth are you or your team celebrating right now? Share with us below—we’d love to uplift your wins. ✨
