Mentorship happens in the moments that matter and the moments in between.

For PEAK Scholars, it can look like talking through a new challenge, exploring future opportunities, sharing a new experience or having someone to celebrate a milestone with.

Through a four-year mentoring relationship, PEAK Mentors help scholars grow academically, personally and socially while encouraging them to see what’s possible.

That’s what PEAK mentorship looks like.

For two years, David Espinoza has been part of the PEAK family, serving as a mentor since 2023 and now leading PEAK as Executive Director.

David brings his experience, wisdom, and, most importantly, his commitment to helping young people grow. Through his relationship with his scholar, he’s able to encourage, challenge, and support a student as he grows at and looks toward his future.

Mentorship is about showing up, building relationships, and helping a young person see what’s possible. David is a great example of the impact one person can make by simply being willing to invest in someone else.

Could you be that person for a PEAK Scholar? Become a mentor and help change a life.

P.S. Happy belated birthday, David!🎉 We’re grateful for all you do for PEAK and our scholars.

The first day of school is almost here! 📚

A new school year brings new classes, new experiences, new friendships, and new opportunities to grow. As our PEAK scholars head back to the classroom, we’re excited to see all that this year has in store for them.

Let’s hear from our PEAK community: What helped you start a new school year with confidence?

Share your answer in the comments. Your advice might be exactly what a student needs to hear.

A mentor can be many things: a listener, a supporter, a role model, a cheerleader, and sometimes, simply someone who understands.

At PEAK, the connection between scholars and mentors is what makes the experience so special. It's a relationship built over time through conversations, shared experiences, encouragement, and showing up for one another.

In fact, PEAK mentors and scholars spend more than 5,400 hours each year building relationships that help scholars grow in confidence, navigate challenges, and pursue their goals.

For our scholars, having a mentor means knowing there is someone in their corner, believing in their potential and cheering them on along the way.

Later in September, our newest scholars and mentors will finally meet for the first time. They've been looking forward to this moment, and we can't wait to see where these new connections lead!

Most people think school readiness means…

-A backpack
-School supplies
-New notebooks

But school readiness also means…

-Building confidence
-Setting goals
-Creating routines
-Having a mentor
-Having a support system

At PEAK, we believe preparing for school is about more than being ready for the first day.

Through mentorship, educational support, and meaningful relationships, we help Scholars build the confidence, habits, and skills they need to thrive throughout the school year.

Because being ready for school isn’t just about what’s in your backpack.

It’s about what you carry with you.

Resilience looks different for everyone.

It can look like asking for help, trying again, showing up on the hard days, celebrating progress, or believing in yourself when the path ahead feels uncertain.

No matter what it looks like, every step forward matters. We're proud of our Scholars for continuing to grow, learn, and persevere every day.

Some youth dream about becoming athletes.

Some dream about becoming astronauts.

Logan wants to work in a laboratory, conduct experiments, invent new things, and, in his own words, wear a lab coat. 🥼

“My goal is to work in a laboratory. I think it would be so cool to conduct experiments and invent new things. I also think wearing a lab jacket is pretty cool too. Becoming a Chemist would make my family so proud of me.”

Logan’s dream may continue to evolve as he grows, but his curiosity is already clear. And with the support of his PEAK mentor, Alex, he has someone in his corner who is passionate about helping him reach his full potential. Alex knows firsthand the impact a mentor can have. Having benefited from mentors in his own youth, he is committed to paying that investment forward.

That’s the power of mentoring: one person invests in a young person’s life, and that impact can continue from one generation to the next.

The impact of mentoring is real:

• 85% of young people with a mentor say that relationship helped them with issues related to school and education.
• Young people with mentors are 22% more likely to experience a strong sense of belonging while growing up.
• 74% of people who had a meaningful mentor say that person contributed significantly to their success later in life.

Tuition sponsors help make these life-changing opportunities possible. Their support gives scholars like Logan access to a strong education, a caring mentor, and the encouragement to explore their interests and imagine what’s possible.

For Logan, the future may include chemistry, a laboratory, new inventions, and, of course, a lab jacket.

We’re excited to see where his curiosity takes him.
