Society isn’t à la carte. We all benefit when we all benefit, and we can’t do that unless we all chip in.

The thing about government is that it exists for the common good: it’s not a bundled subscription service. This person probably wants to take advantage of social security benefits that younger generations contribute to, and for that matter there’s a good chance they directly benefitted from public education funding when they were younger.

More to the point, everyone benefits from living in a nation where kids can read or where seniors have protection against poverty.

There is, after all, such a thing as society. Pass that on!

Hey, all! Michael "Vote Vick" Vick here. I'm the coordinator of the And Campaign - Chicago. I recently reached out to one of my longtime friends, Dana Williams, to touch base. My friends Amar Patel and Pastor Chris Butler have impressed upon me the need for intentional solidarity, so I've been sending messages to folks individually just to catch up.

As it turns out, Dana is going through a rough time right now and could use some help. She had a major leak at her house, which caused serious water damage that has essentially left her temporarily homeless. She's living with friends and family, and at hotels, causing a lot of stress, financial and otherwise, for herself and her daughters.

I offered to set up a GoFundMe, which I've done. Let's show up and show out in solidarity with Dana by contributing all we can! Please make sure to share this to your social circles as well. Thanks, y'all!

The Center for Public Justice is a nonpartisan think tank and civic education organization which, like us, recognizes that government has an important (though not all-encompassing) role to play in advancing human flourishing.
