To the New York Times:
Donald Trump stated, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”
He’s done far worse, yet Republicans in Congress do nothing and he’s lost few voters.
I’ve worked in Africa for more than 20 years. When I left to return to the U.S. this month, I looked at my many friends, embracing each one and thinking “This is likely the last time I see you. You are going to die because of the decisions of my evil President. “
Bush’s USAID saved Africa. Over years, I saw disease and hunger diminished. Babies were no longer born with HIV’s death sentence because USAID provided mothers with preventive medicine.
It’s changed.
I run a nonprofit organization in eastern Africa, largely populated by subsistence farmers who barely survive. They need the “hand UP” provided by USAID. Without it, they’ll succumb to HIV or starvation.
Now Trump is adding insult to injury by attempting to send Americans at risk of Ebola to Kenya, again ignoring the sovereignty of a foreign nation. This is an outrage. It must not stand.
Trump is deranged and evil. His supporters in Congress are not. Yet they do nothing as our democracy moves further down the road to perdition.
Trump’s perfidy could be stopped in a New York minute if Congress would act. Have they no decency?
