Will CPS Sink or Stabilize? What You Need to Know About the Budget Crisis

Here’s a brief summary:

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is currently facing a major budget deficit, and conversations are underway about how to address the shortfall. A recent memo from consulting firm Baker Tilly outlines three main strategies: making budget cuts such as staff furloughs, refinancing existing debt, and requesting additional funds from the city through special taxing districts.

The CPS board is preparing to vote on whether to take on a $175 million pension payment that the city has historically covered. This vote is significant—if CPS doesn’t reimburse the city, it could deepen the deficit and possibly trigger a credit downgrade, making future borrowing more expensive. 📢 Chicago Parents: Your Child’s Education Matters!

With CPS facing a $500M+ budget deficit, many programs and services may be on the chopping block. Our kids deserve quality education, stability, and opportunities—and it’s time to explore all options.

Did you know? Many private schools in Chicago offer scholarships for BIPOC students to ensure diversity and access to high-quality education. These opportunities can significantly reduce tuition costs and provide smaller class sizes, strong academic support, and long-term educational benefits.

💡 What can you do?

✅ Look into private school scholarships —there are lots of programs and initiatives help make private education affordable.
✅ Ask about financial aid —many schools have funding specifically for underrepresented students.
✅ Explore ALL educational options—your child’s future is worth it.

CPS families, don’t wait for budget cuts to impact your child’s learning. The right opportunity could be just a conversation away!
