City Kids Camp

City Kids Camp Helping Kids -Providing adventure, fun, hope, and life-changing experiences for at-risk kids. City Ki Helping Kids. Changing Lives. Today’s campers.

What We Provide
City Kids Camp is located in Lewistown, Illinois, about three hours south of Chicago. There, attendees will experience all of the adventures of camp on our beautiful 167 acres of natural environment. Our staff is composed of dedicated volunteers, counselors, nurses, teachers, mentors, and motivational speakers, all of whom work together to encourage and nurture our campers. Tomorro

w’s leaders. City Kids Camp provides a unique opportunity for underprivileged youth to become more independent and self-confident. Our calm environment and dedicated staff encourage campers to make new friends, learn new skills, and experience what life can be like outside of their urban communities. Our camp is unique in that our campers don’t just sit around a campfire and sing songs. Besides the range of activities they are able to participate in, campers also get the opportunity to listen to important speakers, having open conversations about how to make positive life decisions even in their complicated home environments. Our camp is open to any Chicago inner-city youth from 4th to 12th grade. Our experience with our prior campers has shown that having kids in nature helps them calm down and minimize their natural defenses, which makes them more receptive to new experiences and dialogues

This past weekend (May 1–3), over 100 amazing WGN Radio listeners made the trip to Lewistown, Illinois for our 3rd annual volunteer cleanup weekend at City Kids Camp—and what a turnout it was.

This place is so much more than a camp. It’s where Chicago kids get adventure, joy, hope, and truly life-changing experiences. Being part of getting it ready for them is something special !

10 years of welcoming kids to camp, strong and still going ❤️

This past weekend (May 1–3), over 100 amazing WGN Radio listeners made the trip to Lewistown, Illinois for our 3rd annual volunteer cleanup weekend at City Kids Camp—and what a turnout it was.

This place is so much more than a camp. It’s where Chicago kids get adventure, joy, hope, and truly life-changing experiences. Being part of getting it ready for them is something special.

So many highlights:

✨ Reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting incredible new volunteers
✨ The women who absolutely worked their butts off—cleaning, fixing, repainting, and adding beautiful touches to the chicken coop
✨ The generosity everywhere you looked

And a HUGE thank you to Hector’s wife Diane and his mom—feeding everyone is no small task… dinner Friday, THREE meals Saturday, and two on Sunday. The time, cost, and love behind that does not go unnoticed 💛

Special moment: John Williams stepping up to a free throw challenge to inspire donations—$1,000 on the line… and then volunteers jumped in too. Together, they raised an additional $9,000, sending 15 more kids to camp. Incredible.

Beautiful weather, full hearts, and proof that there are still so many good people in this world.

Already looking forward to next year 🙏

It’s sooo cold ! With severe, sub-zero temperatures today keep kids inside and stay indoors if possible! -

Extreme cold causes pipes to freeze and burst, leading to significant, costly damage to your unit and others.
Please take the following proactive, necessary measures:
Drip Faucets: Let a small, steady drip of cold and hot water run from faucets, especially those on exterior walls.
Open Cabinet Doors: Open all kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to reach pipes.
Keep Heat On: Ensure your thermostat is set to at least 60-65°F (16-18°C), even if you are leaving the unit.
Close Windows: Double-check that all windows and sliding doors are closed and locked.
Keep Interior Doors Open: Open doors between rooms to allow heat to circulate properly.
