Today, CTC had the honor of joining the Andre Vasquez and community members for the groundbreaking of Elise Malary Plaza at the corner of Clark and Catalpa in Andersonville 🎉

This historic moment represents not only a permanent tribute to the life and legacy of Elise Malary, but also a commitment to creating public spaces that affirm, celebrate, and protect transgender and gender-expansive people 🏳️‍⚧️

As an organization dedicated to expanding access to LGBTQIA+ affirming mental health care, we are proud to witness and support investments in visibility, belonging, and community. We look forward to seeing Elise Malary Plaza become a place of reflection, connection, and joy for years to come ❤️

Chicago Therapy Collective is excited to support this historic moment for the collective, for Elise, her family and everyone else who loved her ❤️

Elise was an activist that helped build CTC into what it is today, serving as a board member and the founder of Hire Trans Now 🏳️‍⚧️ She spoke with an unmatched fierceness and clear message for the allies of the trans community: Rise up for your trans siblings now more than ever!

In a time when our freedoms are uncertain, and our safety is under attack, she gave the community hope. The people of Andersonville will never forget and this plaza is proof of that! ✊🏿

For the last day of Midsommarfest, we took to the streets and asked festivalgoers: what percentage of US adults do you think are currently in therapy?🧐

Guesses were all over the place, but the real answer is just around 13%!

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Health Statistics, mental health treatment is becoming more common, but still not as widespread as people often assume📈

Would you have guessed it right?👀

Today at Midsommarfest we had the chance to speak with Andre Vasquez Alderperson Andre Vasquez about the Elise Malary Plaza coming to the Andersonville neighborhood ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

Join us Thursday, June 18 at 12pm at Catalpa and Ashland for the groundbreaking of Elise Malary Plaza.

Catalpa Avenue is being transformed into a pedestrian plaza that will create space for community gathering, summer events, and the Andersonville Farmers Market.

Naming the plaza in honor of Elise, former CTC board member and founder of , is both a tribute and a commitment, recognizing how she used public space to bring people together and continuing her legacy of advocating for a Chicago where Black and Brown trans people can live and thrive ✊🏾🏳️‍⚧️

We hope you can join us in this celebration ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

It’s been 10 years since the tragedy at Pulse.

And what a long 10 years it has been. All the anti LGBTQ+ bills and laws, all the hatred we’ve endured and friends we’ve lost in the midst of it all. Every person listed below should still be here, And yet, they live on in the hearts and minds of those closest to them. With everything
going on, this makes CTC’s mission that much more important.

Providing low-cost mental health services to the LGBTQ+ community is essential to keeping us strong. And today, at Midsommarfest, we’ll be sharing information on how to sign up for therapy. All the while, we will live and love freely. We’ll exist not just for ourselves but for those who aren’t here anymore. While Midsommarfest goers will be celebrating this weekend, we’ll make space for those who will be mourning.
