CCR assists the animals that are the MOST vulnerable in our city and throughout the midwest - the dogs and cats that are slated for euthanasia because they are too old, too young, too injured, have disabilities, or have simply been overlooked for too long by potential adopters at other shelters.

Two tiny husky puppies were found abandoned inside a duffel bag. ❤️‍🩹

After reports of desperate barking and crying coming from a garage, animal control officers discovered Fire and Ice weak, dehydrated, exhausted, and alone. Thanks to our partners at Cicero Animal Control, our intake coordinator, and some late night emergency calls, they made it safely to CCR.

Today, these babies are thriving in foster care- playing with toys, enjoying full bellies, and snuggling up for cozy naps. All things EVERY puppy should have access to.

But Fire and Ice aren't the only puppies who need help. Summer is puppy season, and requests for assistance are coming in almost every day. In fact, we already have another litter and their mom arriving this weekend.

Every "yes" comes with veterinary care, food, supplies, and a safe place to grow. Your support makes those lifesaving yeses possible.

Meet Wendell! 💙🐶🌈

At around 50 pounds, this young adult Bulldog mix is a handsome, sweet gentleman who is ready to steal your heart.

Wendell has a great medium energy level, making him the perfect partner for both outdoor strolls and couch cuddling. He is also a total toy enthusiast who absolutely loves playing with balls! He is incredibly friendly with people and has already shown positive signs around other dogs during his previous leash greetings.

Our medical team notes that this handsome guy is currently a little thin and needs to gain some weight, which just means he is looking forward to plenty of nutritious meals and tasty training treats! If you can tell from the crumbs on his whiskers….he sure loves treats!!

He pulls a little on his leash but is eager to learn, and he is thriving with his shelter routine. If you are looking for a loving companion to nurture and grow with, Wendell is your guy! 💙

For a quarter century, our supporters, adopters, fosters, volunteers, donors, and friends have made this mission possible. Together, we’ve helped thousands of dogs find safety, care, and loving homes while creating a community that continues to make a difference every day.

As we begin celebrating this milestone year, we simply want to say thank you. Your support, dedication, and belief in our mission have shaped the last 25 years. And while we’re proud of how far we’ve come, we’re even more excited about what’s ahead. STILL MISSING: We have not had eyes on Mira since Saturday afternoon. Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who have been searching LaBagh woods and Gompers Park and hanging fliers. We have placed a feeding station for her with food and fresh water in hopes that will draw her out.

If anyone happens to have a game camera we can borrow to place at the feeding station that would be incredibly helpful! Please email [email protected] if you can help ❤️
