STS Looking to the Future Scholarship

The 2026 Looking to the Future Scholarship applications are open!

The primary goal of the scholarship is to provide mentorship and exposure for medical students and general surgery residents interested in pursuing careers in cardiothoracic surgery. Over the past 20 years, this program has provided scholarships to 900 medical students and general surgery residents. We look forward to welcoming the next slate of scholars!

The following people are eligible to apply:

-Medical students training at an institution in the United States or Canada
-Clinical PGY1, PGY2, or PGY3 general surgery residents training at an institution in the United States or Canada
-General surgery residents on dedicated research time who have not started their PGY4 clinical year training at an institution in the United States or Canada

STS’s 2023 Looking to the Future Scholars are an active and interested group of medical students and general surgery residents who had a wonderful time attending the STS 59th Annual Meeting in San Diego. Of this year’s 60 scholarship recipients, 40% are female and 48% are underrepresented in medicine. STS is proud to have offered this wonderful opportunity to such a diverse and promising group of scholars. Check out the 2023 LTTF photo album to see a good time had by all!
