ACTION ALERT: if you see your alder on this list please contact them IMMEDIATELY and ask them to VOTE NO the awful Ford City Redevelopment Plan ( #22814). They’re planning to rezone the largest shopping district outside of downtown and turning it a light industry and eventually a heavy industrial corridor. PLEASE call or leave a message today. The SW side is so politically disenfranchised bc of decades of machine politics that it’s hard to organize. But we deserve a safe and healthy future too! We need more green space on the SW side and we can improve transit by extending the orange line, building housing, and building a new outdoor commercial retail district! Everyone can get a lil something that benefits us all if we work together. Don’t let this sale and zoning change go through. We held 3 public town halls to hear from community members with SWAN and the alderman is not listening to community feedback! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns

If it passes the zoning committee, we can also ask the mayor to veto this at the general council meeting Wednesday! Mayor Brandon Johnson we need more environmental review before this project moves forward. And we need to pass the Hazel M. Johnson Ordinance that would safeguard and protect working class people as well as black and brown communities. This part of chicago history should be under public hands to uplift present and future generations. Dream big, build a 50 acre park, affordable housing for veterans, people with disabilities, and seniors and make this area an economic engine! We’re done with corporate slumlords and heavy industry on the south side! southsidechicago
