We offer services from health testing to transitioning services. Trans Chicago program helps Latino and African-American transgender people to obtain comprehensive HIV prevention or treatment services. It should be noted services are not limited to soley those identified under the trans umbrella. What is Trans Chicago aiming to accomplish? Trans Chicago aims to assist the client with education to
reduce the risk of HIV transmission, improve outcomes for those living with HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, and ultimately reduce new infections. What are the program’s key strategies for making this happen? Trans Chicago is a program established by the Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC). PRCC’s special mission is to implement programs that focus on prevention and management of HIV/AIDS, raising awareness of issues facing the LGBTQ community, controlled substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, racism, and human rights violations. Trans Chicago program’s key strategies lies on: Directly Operating Comprehensive HIV testing and education, Quality of Instruction and Care through Professional Development Tools and Trainings, and Innovations in Empowerment. We operate Trans Chicago, an entity of PRCC, to provide direct support to the trans community. Our innovative model is based on clear goals of measuring progress on regular basis. By way of Pre and Post-testing counseling, Trans Chicago utilizes evidence-based practices, such as: Personalized Cognitive Counseling (PCC), WILLOW, and PROMISE.
