Albany Park Neighbors

Albany Park Neighbors We're a community group working to make life better for all Albany Park residents. We're just getting started, but we have a lot of enthusiasm.

We're a community group comprised of Albany Park residents who want to improve our community by connecting with neighbors and local officials. If you identify as an Albany Parker, or live between the boundaries of Pulaski and Kedzie and Foster and Montrose, please join us! Bring an open heart, rolled-up sleeves and great ideas! Facebook Policy:

We all have to live together. Let's keep it positive and productive. Hate speech will be added to the spam queue.

Apologies for being absent. Our active membership has declined since COVID and our volunteer board of directors is down to two people who have demanding jobs and many personal obligations. We have not had the bandwidth to organize events and meetings. However, we did want to take a moment to address the current state of the country.

Our status as a certified Non-Profit organization prevents us from endorsing or opposing particular candidates, parties, or ballot initiatives. It does not, however, prevent us from encouraging community members to get involved and fight back against a fascist takeover of our federal government by unelected individuals.

It does not prevent us from encouraging you to call your US Senators and Congressional Representatives and demand that they do everything in their legal power to stall, obstruct, and fight back against illegal and hostile takeover of our government and the institutions that keep our nation functioning and safe. Phone calls are the next best thing to showing up in their offices in person. Emails and online petitions are not effective. If the local Chicago phone number is busy, try the Springfield or DC numbers.

It does not prevent us from informing community members of local organizations that are working to fight back, including, but not limited to those listed in this Local Organizations Yellow Pages: https://www.workingfamilies33.org/get_organized_2024.

Most importantly, we want to remind everyone to look out for your neighbors, especially those whose rights are most at risk, and to practice patience and kindness. Take a deep breath, plug in where and when you can, and practice self care.

Come show your support for lights on the Horner Park basketball court at a community meeting on September 5 (Horner Park, 5pm).

Albany Park Neighbors supports HANA Center, Israel's Gifts of Hope, our 17th District Police Council representatives, and students at Roosevelt High School in their quest to have lights installed on the basketball courts at Horner Park.

For several years, students and other youth groups have been told there is no funding. However, the project was submitted to, and won funding in, the last 33rd Ward Participatory Budgeting voting. Now that there is funding, supporters have been told they need to demonstrate community support, beyond winning PB funding. This is all despite there being lights on the tennis/pickleball courts mere yards away. When pointing this out in conversation, we have heard arguments such as the tennis courts attract a "different clientele" or that basketball court lights would be a "safety concern." -- These arguments do not hold up to reasonable scrutiny and are, quite frankly, offensive.

Albany Park Neighbors supports any initiative that brings more lighted space and healthy, constructive activities to our community. Installing lights is the right, and equitable, thing to do.

Hana Center has an online petition and information sheet ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf9_GXA9fBs78JDRZOFZyCpyOdt2fnJ7R2ToRCKLlAK1_GiaQ/viewform )

Supper Club is one week from today! Tuesday 2/27 at 6:30pm, Supper Club will meet at Peking Mandarin (3459 W Lawrence). They are a Chinese-Korean fusion locale, two blocks west of the Kimball Brown Line stop. All attendees are required to cover the cost of their own meal and are asked to make a suggested $1 donation to Albany Park Neighbors to secure their spot and allow us to give the restaurant a proper headcount prior to dinner. We hope to see you there! Previous Supper Club meetups have been a great time. For more details and to RSVP, visit the event page on Eventbrite.

Join us for February Supper Club, where neighbors gather to enjoy a mouthwatering meal and good company!
