Meet Taiwo, a 2025 recipient of the Doe Thornburg Scholarship, who studied abroad in South Korea.

Meet Weriem, an artist, storyteller, and proud representative of both France and Tunisia.

After nearly 15 years in Chicago, Weriem shares why she loves being part of IWA: the warmth of the community, meeting women from around the world, and the many unique events that bring members together.

Art shapes the way she expresses herself and connects with the world around her. While she is passionate about the arts in all forms, painting holds a special place in her heart and serves as her favorite creative outlet.

Fun fact: Weriem once served as Natalie Portman’s double during the filming of Star Wars Episode I & II in the Tunisian desert when she was a teenager! 🎬

A tradition of peace, folded one crane at a time!

IWA came together for a final Cranes for Peace Workshop, continuing our participation in a citywide installation created in collaboration with the Japanese Culture Center and the Osaka Chicago Sister Cities Committee.

Members learned the art of origami and contributed to hundreds of folded cranes, each one representing hope, intention, and community.

As these cranes begin to appear across Chicago and move toward their public installation at 900 North Michigan, they serve as a quiet but powerful reminder of what collective action can create.

We are honored to be part of this ongoing symbol of peace.
