In 2025, USA enters our 20th year of commitment to durable, sustainable support to artists and creative practitioners in All Stages, in All Ways, Always. This year, we are thrilled to award a new cohort of USA Fellows, fifty exceptional artists and collectives working in ten disciplines in twenty-one US states, spanning the most nascent to mature stages of careers.

These creative practitioners center origin and belonging, many honoring work that explores regional specificity. Join us in celebrating and congratulating our 2025 cohort!

The fourth issue of Shift Space, guest edited by 2021 USA Fellow in Media Morehshin Allahyari and writer and animator Angeline Marie Michael Meitzler, is online now at shiftspace.pub!

Allahyari and Meitzler write, “This issue of Shift Space engages with artists, poets, and writers who interact with technological thinking and tooling in ways that go beyond merely ‘catching up to the West,’ instead forging another codebase, a different source code, a narrative of its own. We find here the story of a transfemme nurse caring for patients with cybersickness and of Google Maps’ Pegman, who builds a new relationship with her body; we learn of technology’s role in becoming the master’s tool within systems of oppression and of the survival of a plant across multiple landscapes of colonial occupation. The practitioners assembled in this issue not only challenge homogeneity and the societal systems that govern technology itself, but also embolden a fractalization of technological development for and in service of other possible worlds and dreams.”

Issue 4 features contributions from Derek Tumala, Foundland Collective, Golrokh Nafisi, Isola Tong, Jami Nakamura Lin, Luiza Prado, and Nour.
