Carlson Community Services

Carlson Community Services Carlson is a 501(c)(3) non-profit connecting the Irving Park community with programs that enrich lives through education, culture and service.

Carlson Community Services is a non-profit community service organization that grew out of the generosity of three brothers, Helge, Carl and George Carlson. In 2004, upon the death of the last brother, a bequest was made to the Irving Park Lutheran Church, where the brothers had been lifelong members. In 2006, what is now Carlson Community Services was begun with a church grant from the Carlson br

other’s bequest. The mission of CCS, which is a 501(c)(3) community service organization, reflects the concern that the Carlson brothers had for those in need in their community.

Great harvest and planting day at the Three Brothers Garden- thank you to everyone who came out! We will bring the radishes we harvested to the Irving Park Community Food Pantry tomorrow morning. You can join us every Tuesday from 6pm-7pm all summer long. Looking for other ways to help? You can “Plant a Row for our Community” and share your garden’s surplus with us so we can bring to the Irving Park Community Food Pantry.

Carlson is a proud, and grateful, recipient of a 2026 grant award from Hinsdale Junior Woman's Club. The grant will allow for the purchase of a commercial-grade dishwasher and refrigerator/freezer which will result in enhanced enrichment activities for Magic After-School Place students - specifically cooking and baking, will expand our offerings for healthy snacks, and will support a more efficient use of staff time.
Carlson's Executive Director, Liz Drew, and the Director of the Magic After-School Place, Rebecca Haneberg, attended the HJWC grant award celebration in May.
We are very grateful for the support and generosity of Hinsdale Junior Woman's Club!

The final concert of the 32nd season of Carlson's Irving Park Fine Arts concert series is not one we will soon forget!
Under the direction of Dr. Stephen Alltop, over 40 members of The Apollo Chorus of Chicago gave a stunning performance on Sunday, performing a beautiful variety of songs from American composers including William Billings, Alice Parker, John Williams, Justin Holland, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, among others. Concertgoers enjoyed a reception following the concert, providing an opportunity to engage with the chorus.
Thank you to all of our supporters and volunteers who helped to bring another season of high-quality, professional music to the Irving Park neighborhood - for free!
Our 33rd season will be announced in late summer. Sign up for our enewsletter at www.carlsoncommunityservices.org to receive announcements regarding concerts, events, and our programs.

The 2026 growing season is underway in Carlson's Three Brothers Garden and April showers will bring more than flowers! 🌱 Garden committee volunteers met this week and planted seeds for early spring crops. Radish, beets, kale, onion, peas, broccoli and cabbage are all early-maturing vegetables and will be ready for our partners at Irving Park Community Food Pantry later this Spring. Successive planting will give us a continuous supply of fresh vegetables until early Fall.
