There is more than ordinary significance in the fact that St. Peregrine was miraculously healed at the foot of the cross. The miracle might have happened on his sick bed or in a shrine. But it didn’t. The cure took place before the cross where all who are sick must eventually find themselves if they wish to participate in the redemptive action of Christ.

O great St. Peregrine, you are called the “Mighty,” the “Wonder worker” because of the numerous miracles which you obtained from God. You bore in your own flesh, for so many years, this cancerous disease that attacks the very fiber of our being. When human power could do no more, you were favored with a vision of Jesus coming down from his cross to heal your affliction. St. Peregrine, please intercede and ask of Jesus our Savior, the cure of these sick persons whom we entrust to you…

(recall here the names of the sick persons for whom you are praying…)

Aided by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for his great goodness and mercy. Amen.

Gospel of the Day (Luke 12,1-7)

At that time: So many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot. He began to speak, first to his disciples, "Beware of the leaven--that is, the hypocrisy--of the Pharisees. There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known.

Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops.
I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more.

I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one. Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows."

Prayer of Healing for Pope Leo

For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, no angel, no prince, nothing that exists, nothing still to come, not any power, or height or depth, nor any created thing, can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Make your prayer to the Lord and the Lord will heal you.

Nothing can separate you from the love of God.
- And the Lord will heal you.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
- Make your prayer to the Lord and the Lord will heal you.

O Lord, our God,
in your plan of salvation
you sent your Son into the world,
to bear the weight of our sorrows
and our infirmities.

Look kindly on Pope Leo,
and through the intercession of Saint Peregrine Laziosi,
send upon him the Spirit of consolation and peace:
grant him strength in the time of trial,
hope amid tribulation
and acceptance of your holy will.
May he be held firm by you,
and be able to take up once more
his joyful and generous service
to the Church.
