Congratulations to our Chairman Dennis Roberson and Board Member William Webb on the release of The End of Telecoms History. Their perspectives offer a must-read for anyone interested in where telecommunications is headed. Available now on Amazon:

Telecoms networks have improved dramatically over the last 150 years. Initially developments were focused on delivering voice calls to homes and then to mobile phones, and then from the 1990s to enabling Internet connectivity. Data capabilities have improved from early 1.2kbit/s modems to network...

Smartphones have transformed how we live, work, and communicate, but that transformation is still unfolding. From battery-free health monitoring to social shifts in how we talk (or don’t), The Associated Press piece addresses the mobile phone’s impact and what comes next.

At the center of it all: Martin Cooper, inventor of the mobile phone and recipient of the 2025 Marconi Society Lifetime Achievement Award.

Read the full article:

Martin Cooper changed the world when he pioneered the portable phone. The Motorola company’s four-pound box has evolved into a global army of powerful smartphones weighing ounces.

MIT researchers, including 2024 Marconi Young Scholar Tara Boroushaki, have developed a groundbreaking imaging technique that uses Wi-Fi signals to reconstruct 3D shapes of hidden objects.

The system, called mmNorm, could revolutionize how robots operate in factories, warehouses, and homes.

This work, from the MIT Signal Kinetics group, marks a major leap in wireless sensing and robotics.

Using reflections from wireless signals, a new method imaged a range of everyday objects, like silverware and a power drill, enclosed in a box. The technology could help robots in a home or warehouse find items that are blocked from view. https://news.mit.edu/2025/new-imaging-technique-reconstructs-hidden-object-shapes-0701

Marconi Society Internet Resilience Institute Advisory Council member Ram Mohan, founder of Coalition on Digital Impact (CODI), is advancing a critical, but often overlooked, dimension of Internet resilience: language accessibility.

Through Universal Acceptance (UA), CODI is working to ensure domain names and email addresses in all languages and scripts function across global systems. Language support is essential to strengthening Internet infrastructure, reducing fragmentation, and keeping the network reliable for everyone.

Read how CODI is reinforcing the foundation of a global Internet: https://marconisociety.org/magazine/future-proofing-the-internet-with-codi/

As the digital world grows, Internet resilience is often framed around cybersecurity and infrastructure—but what about language? True resilience means serving all users, in every script. That’s where CODI comes in.
