Safe Families for Children National USA

Safe Families for Children National USA The trauma of child abuse can be devastating and have lasting consequences for a child. It is from this philosophy Safe Families for Children (SFFC) was born.

Safe Families for Children is a nonprofit volunteer movement that serves and supports parents facing crisis in isolation to help keep children safe and families together! Many instances of abuse and neglect can be prevented if families in crisis had a support network of caring individuals to help them in a time of need. In 2003, SFFC founder, Dave Anderson, found that if loving families can provid

e a safe and caring environment for a child at critical times, we can not only prevent harm to children, but we can enhance a parent's ability to provide what that child needs. Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is a national movement of compassion that gives hope to families facing crisis in isolation. A network of volunteers provide safe, loving homes for parents to voluntarily have their children cared for while they restore stability in their own lives. Our dedication to family support, stabilization, and child abuse prevention is driven by responsibility for the well-being of children in our communities. SFFC partners with churches, local community agencies, volunteer families as well as government organizations across the country. The SFFC network provides essential extended family-like relationships to nearly 1,000 children and families annually. Learn more at www.safe-families.org

We believe prevention begins with relationships. Through compassionate volunteers, host families, family friends, mentors, churches, and community partners, we come alongside families before isolation becomes an emergency.

By offering resources, goal setting, coaching, encouragement, and connection, we help parents navigate challenges while keeping children safely connected to the people who love them most.
Family preservation isn’t the work of one organization; it’s the work of a community. Thank you to every volunteer, supporter, and partner who helps create a network of belonging, hope, and support for families. Thank you to the families we serve for trusting us to be a part of your journey.

Together, we’re building stronger families and helping prevent the need for child welfare involvement. 💙

The posture of pausing, noticing, and seeing a person is the heart of biblical hospitality. This is a radical way of practicing hospitality!

Let's think about practicing hospitality in two ways. First, to share with those “who are in need.” Since we ALL have needs, every encounter is an opportunity to notice others' needs, NOT to think about yourself.

Second, practice hospitality. This skill isn't reserved for individuals who excel at entertaining, but a Christ-like posture that can be learned over time as we start to pause, notice, and see people around us.

Family preservation refers to the ways we can keep families together and help them thrive. By providing family-focused PREVENTION services for families facing crisis, the goal is to improve parenting and family functioning, keep children safely at home, and prevent unnecessary involvement in foster care.

Prevention services emphasize building on a family's existing strengths while addressing underlying issues such as poverty, lack of access to basic resources, or dealing with challenging situations such as homelessness, unemployment, and a lack of child care. The overarching aim is to prevent the trauma of separation and promote long-term family stability and independence.

Our evidence-based and Family First-approved model is keeping families together! Check out our newly released Annual Report at https://bit.ly/3QjumAM to read more about how we are impacting families nationally and globally!

Child well-being is incredibly important in Family Preservation work. When parents are properly supported by both resources and intentional relationships, children can thrive at home.

The latest data from the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows a mixed picture across the country. Overall child well-being declined nationally between 2019 and 2024, with education showing the largest decline. This is a problem that can be fixed when communities come together to walk alongside and support isolated and vulnerable families before a crisis occurs, child welfare involvement is needed, and family separation occurs.

As we spotlight National Family Preservation Month, let's prioritize holistic community support over out-of-home foster care. Check out our website to learn more about prevention efforts to keep more children safe and families together.

Family Preservation starts with community. When parents feel overwhelmed and isolated, a circle of support can make all the difference. The goal is to support parents by showing up and offering community before a crisis becomes a breaking point.

No family should have to face a crisis alone! Let’s be the community every family should have.
