Who Has Sarcoidosis? Once thought rare, Sarcoidosis is now known to be common and affects people worldwide. The disease can affect men and women of any age or race. However, it is most common among adults between the ages of 20 to 40 and I higher in certain ethnic groups. Worldwide, prevalence rate from less than 1 to as many as 40 cases per 100,000. In the United States, prevalence rates are 10.9 per 100,000 for Caucasians and 35.5 per 100,000 for African-American. Most studies suggest a higher disease rate for women and even higher rate for African-American women.
