Transforming People Through the Art of the Actor

Chekhov Studio Chicago is Chicago’s resource for studying the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique, an embodied, imaginative approach to the art of the actor. Our classes and workshops offer theatre/film actors, singers, and theatre teachers training in the Chekhov Technique.

“The beauty of his approach is that he offers a direct route to the actor’s

creativity by the simplest means.” Simon Callow in his forward to Chekhov’s book, To The Actor. Originally the Studio of the Moving Dock Theatre Company, NFP, we opened our doors in 2003 and later changed our name to Chekhov Studio Chicago to reflect our mission to provide training in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique for our community.

Starting April 6- Chekhov Archive Project Spring Session! What was it like to learn acting and rehearse with Michael Chekhov? You can find out! In the Archive Project we dig into the wonderful online resource of Michael Chekhov's class and rehearsal process notes, guiding actors to get up and do what Chekhov was doing with his actors, and talking together about Chekhov's inspired ideas. Actors still new to Chekhov Technique are welcome, as are teachers and colleagues. We discover something new everyday!

Have you had an interest in digging into the CHhekhov Archives with us at Chekhov Studio Chicago but found the time didn't work out? A Chekhov colleague from Australia has asked if I could arrange an Archive class that would work for her part of the globe. I am happy to say, yes!

We will be starting new with the Archives. The other session that begins, October 13 at 11 AM CT is a continuing group. All are welcome to either. Both are eight weeks.

If this is something you would like to do, please let me know by Chekhov Studio Chicago gmail.
