Washington Square Park Advisory Council

Volunteer park advisory council, formed December 2014, looks out for the park, drives fundraising, and works with the Chicago Park District and the community.

Get involved and help make our park better and more fun for all to enjoy. The Washington Square Park Advisory Council is a volunteer group that works with the Chicago Park District and the community on behalf of historic Washington Square Park, Chicago's oldest park. The Council meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Newberry Library. All are welcome to attend and invited to volunteer to help Washington Square Park!

The Beatles Sing-Along Returns to Lake Shore Park Sunday 7/26

Come Together the Beatles sang, and you can answer their call. From Me(us) To You, all are invited! Neighbors, Friends, Families, Singers, Non-Singers, Show-offs & Introverts; Ukuleles, Accordions, Tambourines, Marimbas and Guitars Welcome. We’ll sing, hum (or listen) 22+ Beatles tunes led by experienced musicians with songbooks provided.

Join us tomorrow in the park for an afternoon of live music in the park with the beloved community woodwind orchestra, Windy City Winds, returning for their eighth annual performance. Bring snacks & water for your family, a blanket, sunscreen, and bug spray. We hope to see you there!

What do we do when a sudden power outage occurs 5 minutes before a summer concert? Improvise with an a ca****la performance, of course!

Thank you so much Porchlight Music Theatre for braving the heat and bringing your talent and “the show must go on” attitudes tonight to our park. They turned what could’ve been a huge disappointment into a lovely community show. But what can we say? That’s showbiz, baby!

Be sure to catch a formal PorchLight Theatre performance of the 2026/2027 season. Details are found on their website. We hope to see you all in the park again soon!

Join us tomorrow night at the park for Porchlight Music Theatre’s “Broadway in Your Backyard.” We’re so excited to welcome back this beloved program for another year. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

It’s going to be a hot one so dress appropriately and pack plenty water for you and your family or pets. Bug spray, sunscreen, and your own blanket/chair to sit on are also good items to bring. We look forward to seeing you there!

*To maintain the sanctity of our park as a shared and sober ‘3rd space’ for community members of all ages, we ask that you please do not bring alcohol or drugs into the park. It is unlawful to have these items on Chicago Park District property. Anyone violating this will be promptly asked to leave or remove those items.

Happy Pride from Washington Square Park! Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to our beautiful rainbow mural during today’s Chalk the Walk event celebrating our park as the start side of the world’s very first LGBTQ Pride parade back in 1970. 56 years later, our park still serves as a place where people from all walks of life come together for community. 🏳️‍🌈

Come on out to the park this Saturday and help us celebrate Pride at the site of the nation’s first LGBTQ+ pride parade!🏳️‍🌈

Event is free to attend and invites guests of all ages. Washable sidewalk chalk will be provided.

We are so grateful to all our volunteers that came out for It’s Your Park Day yesterday morning! The event was such a wonderful success, with a great turnout and a huge amount of work accomplished! Missed today? Catch us all summer long, every other Saturday from 10-11am, for Pitch in for the Parks.
