Eric Knoerr Is a dedicated Firefighter/ EMT for The Chicago Fire Department, currently assigned to Engine Company 113.

On July 23rd, 2026, while Eric was on duty protecting our city, tragedy struck his own family. His wife was awakened late at night by their two loyal dogs and the sound of smoke detectors, alerting her just in time to get their three young boys and their dogs out of the house safely. Despite their quick escape, a devastating fire destroyed a significant portion of their home, including the basement and part of the kitchen, along with clothes, toys, personal items, and irreplaceable memories.

Now, Eric and his family are facing the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding their lives from the ground up. The loss of their home means they are in urgent need of temporary housing, food, clothing, and everyday essentials. As friends, coworkers, and members of the Chicago Fire Department community, we have an opportunity to come together and support Eric and his family in their time of need. Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide immediate relief and show the Knoerr family that they are not alone in this difficult journey.

Please join The Chicago Battle of The Badges Charities in supporting Eric Knoerr and his family. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser and offering your prayers and words of encouragement are just as meaningful. Firefighters like Eric spend their lives running toward danger to protect our families. Now, we have the privilege of standing behind one of our own. Thank you for your generosity, kindness, and for helping the Knoerr family rebuild.

We are incredibly proud to share that, thanks to the overwhelming support of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, fighters, first responders, and everyone who attended our April 17, 2026 Charity Boxing Event, we were able to present $80,000 in charitable donations during our Check Presentation Ceremony.

These funds were distributed equally among four Chicago Police Department charities and four Chicago Fire Department charities, continuing our mission of supporting the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to serving our city and the families who stand beside them.

This incredible accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our community. Every ticket purchased, every sponsorship, every raffle ticket, every donation, and every person who walked through the doors on April 17th made a direct impact on the lives of our Chicago heroes.

To our fighters who stepped into the ring, our volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, our sponsors who believed in our mission, and every supporter who helped make this event a success thank you.

Together, we proved once again that when Chicago’s First Responders unite, amazing things happen.

We are honored to continue this tradition of giving back and look forward to making an even greater impact in the years to come.

Yesterday was a truly unforgettable day as the Savannah Bananas honored our President of Chicago Battle of the Badges Charities, Retired Captain Alfonso R. Ortiz, at the historic Wrigley Field.

This recognition was a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated 31 years of active service as a Firefighter Paramedic with the Chicago Fire Department, spending his career selflessly protecting the people of Chicago with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Even in retirement, Captain Ortiz continues to serve our community through his leadership of Chicago Battle of the Badges Charities, helping support first responders and their families during times of need.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Savannah Bananas organization for taking the time to recognize Captain Ortiz’s extraordinary career and lifelong commitment to public service. It was an honor that was truly well deserved.

The game itself was nothing short of spectacular. The atmosphere at Wrigley Field was electric, and watching both teams perform was an incredible experience that we’ll never forget. The Savannah Bananas have created something truly special, bringing people together through baseball, entertainment, and unforgettable memories.

Congratulations on an amazing event, and thank you once again for honoring one of Chicago’s finest. We are incredibly proud of Captain Alfonso R. Ortiz and grateful for everything he has done and continues to do for our city and the first responder community.
