“Unheard Voices of Care: Filipino Nurses in America” comes to the International Museum of Surgical Science this summer, running May 15 – August 2, 2026.

The exhibit explores the deep and complex history of Filipino nurses in the United States—tracing migration, identity, labor, and care across generations.

Developed by the Filipino American National Historical Society - FANHS Chicago (FANHS Chicago) in collaboration with author Angel Abcede, and CIRCA Pintig, the exhibit features uniforms, personal artifacts, immigration documents, photographs, and powerful personal stories that move beyond stereotype into lived experience.

Programming will include lectures, panels, and live performances that bring these histories into conversation with art and community.

This exhibit offers an important opportunity to reflect on the role Filipino nurses have played—and continue to play—in shaping U.S. healthcare.

of the week - Sisig has been one of the best creations in Filipino cuisine. It is delicious in many ways. There is also more than one way to make this dish. Bangus sisig is a good version that can be considered as an alternative to pork. It is healthier, yummy, and easy to prepare.

This Bangus Sisig Recipe is really good. This dish has lower fat and cholesterol compared to pork sisig and it is delicious

of the week - “Death of an Army” is an excerpt from the late Antonio A. Nieva’s book, Cadet, Solider, Guerilla Fighter (available on Amazon.com), a personal history of a Bataan Death March survivor and Hunter ROTC guerrilla. Nieva (Tony) was an ROTC officer at the Ateneo de Manila when he was recruited to join the USAFFE’s mobilization in preparation for the Pacific War. After his release from the Japanese POW Camp O’Donnell, he joined the Hunters-ROTC.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal of the U.S. Army for his “marked contribution to the defense of Bataan.”https://www.positivelyfilipino.com/magazine/death-of-an-army
