📣 Thank You, St. Olaf Lutheran Church! 🙌🏼
This past week, we had the absolute joy of serving alongside the incredible team from St. Olaf Lutheran Church in partnership with Urban Plunge Chicago — and what a powerful week it was! From day one, they showed up with hearts full of love, ready to serve, learn, and shine the light of Jesus across our city. Here’s a glimpse into their unforgettable week:
✨ Monday
The team jumped right in at Hope Covenant Church, helping with clean-up projects to make the space more inviting for the surrounding community. Then it was off to The Bridge Teen Center, where they sorted clothes to support their thrift store — helping fund free programs for local teens. A sweet treat at the famous Plush Horse Ice Cream wrapped up their day!
🌱 Tuesday
They began their morning at Elim Christian Center with warehouse help, yardwork, and meaningful time with residents. From there, they headed to Filling The Gap’s Cypress House, where they met single mom Leah and her two children. The team did power washing, landscaping, and helped prepare for the upcoming 3rd Annual Golf Outing, which raises funds for the next transitional home — the Ash House. The day ended with a wonderful backyard BBQ and fellowship with Jen, Mike, and some of the residents.
🥫 Wednesday
The day started at Feed My Lambs food pantry in Posen, where they met our dear friend Ann and helped bag groceries, organize, and move in a donated freezer. After lunch, they headed to the Greater Chicago Food Depository to pack up beans and other goods for local food pantries. Dinner at Connie’s Pizza and passing out blessing bags — along with heartfelt prayers for our unhoused neighbors — ended their night with purpose.
🎨 Thursday
On their final serve day, the team brought fun, laughter, and creativity to the day camp at American Association of Single Parents in Dolton. They truly embraced their inner child as they played, crafted, and shared joy with the kids — a beautiful reflection of Jesus’ words: “Let the little children come to me…” 💛 The afternoon was spent exploring our amazing city before heading back home to Iowa today.
We are so grateful for this faithful team, their selfless hearts, and the way they poured love into every corner of Chicago they touched. God showed up for them and through them all week long. We pray they carry this experience back to their home, sharing all that God is doing — because when you serve others, you never leave the same.
Until next time, St. Olaf — thank you for lighting up our city! 💫
