Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce

Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce Whether you live here or are simply planning a visit, Hyde Park offers a wide array of attractive options for you and your family.

Founded in the 1850's, Hyde Park occupies an enviable location, just seven miles south of the Loop and bounded by the magnificent Lake Michigan shoreline, Washington Park, Midway Plaisance, and the historic community of Kenwood. With an area of just over one square mile, the neighborhood is compact and walkable yet remarkably diverse in its people, its architecture, its restaurants, and its cultural amenities. Two forces in particular have helped shape Hyde Park’s character: the University of Chicago, a world-class institution of higher learning that has served as its anchor since 1892; and the Columbian Exposition of 1893, which left a legacy of unique buildings and outdoor spaces. Hyde Park has been home to a number of notable figures, including Clarence Darrow, Enrico Fermi, Muhammad Ali, Mahalia Jackson, Sara Paretsky, and Barack Obama. President
